Ample Bass plays just the root at varying intervals simultaneously with kick's note on events?

Yeah, that's the idea. Bass playing 101. And then ideas like yours for tweaking it a bit take us up to second week of learning to play bass, but bass doesn't always need to be fancy. Second week of learning to play bass will often do just fine. When in doubt, follow the drums.

I would like the option to include additional notes in all measures affected by the automated kick notes.

Well yeah, the window for any given note can be any length, I just used a measure as an example. And if a kick hits and there is no note on the piano roll then nothing happens. So in a single measure you might have a half note that is E2 and however many times the kick hits during that half note, if at all, the E2 will be strummed. Then you could have a quarter note of space that is empty. If the kick hits during this period nothing happens. The final quarter note could be an A3. Every time the kick hits during that period of time (if at all) an A3 would be plucked.
