Hey guys,
was just on the apple website checking out new mac pros and came across the customization feature that allows buyers to configure their own mac pros. what i cant seem to understand is if you're buying a mac pro primarily for music production (electronic music, lots of plugins, not much recording), which of these 2 machines would you think is appropriate for the task.
Quad Core 3.7GHz with 10MB L3 Cache 64GB RAM 1TB Hard Disk
or
8 Core 3.0GHz with 25MB L3 Cache 64GB RAM 1TB Hard Disk
....
How important is cache size in terms of music production? I know that RAM and Processor Speed are important (which is why i have my eye on the quad core above). But does anyone know what the ideal trade off between Clock Speed & cache size should be in terms of audio production??

just looking at clock speed (or cache size) won't tell you much - look up the proper benchmarks for the e5-1620v2 and e5-1680v2 and you'll see that for things that can load ALL cores (which is true for DAW use) the 'slower' 8 core cpu is miles faster than the 'faster' quad core
