Indeed, and thanks for the additional comments. My tools are very new - this is only the first completed piece in which I've used these orchestral samples (EastWest Hollywood Strings and Brass), and I have much to learn with both actual orchestration and how best to use this particular library. It's clearly capable of being very convincing, but takes practice and dedication. I was happy that this month's contest gave me the motivation to complete something with them though.mellotronaut wrote: it's quite difficult to get string or brass samples sound 'real'.

Hellfog - War of Chaos
Concept like RuediRena's three phases, but we are not quite sure what to think of the first two parts. The final timbre of the piano does it for us though.
Just curious who are we ?

if one is on the Zimmer route, it does matter, of course.
From this comes to mind:
How about a theme "Things H. Zimmer wanted to do but failed"?

it was pure appreciation for your anarchist's approachthomekk wrote: ok ok, so this was an excurse on how many different ways to go.
i don't know, what to think about Zimmer. what he does, he (and all the helping hands, of course) do quite well, but i'm not quite satisfied with the consequences. in fact, his musical palette is restricted (maybe just for reasons of popularity or the fulfillment of movie producers' wishes) and while there is an interesting avantgarde scene, he just alters between sirupy chord progressions and the usual sometimes drum driven staccato stuff. the consequences of his success are a big bunch of imitators and so there aren't many so called blockbuster movies with a different soundtrack colour.thomekk wrote:From this comes to mind:

i must admit, though, i liked the chanson blending in the Inception score a lot and i love the Dark Zebra soundset from U-He
so the topic "Things H. Zimmer wanted to do but failed" is an easy one, because he has to do, what the producers want. and thus perfect for a free for all month.

Ruedi
You want to know
How it will be
Me and him
Or you and me
You both stand there your long hair flowin'
Eyes alive your mind still growin'
Sayin' to me, "What can we do now that we both love you?"
I love you too
I don't really see why can't we go on as three
You are afraid
Embarrassed too
No one has ever said such a
Thing to you
Your mother's ghost stands at your shoulder
Face like ice a little bit colder
Sayin' to you, "You can not do that, it breaks all the rules
You learned in school"
I don't really see
Why can't we go on as three
We love each other
It's plain to see
There's just one answer
That comes to me
Sister lovers water brothers
And in time maybe others
So you see what we can do is to try something new
If you're crazy too
I don't really see
Why can't we go on as three
David Crosby
... and thank you very much for the votes!
