Just how serious are we with the hardware research for chipspeech?

WOW!
I'm really, REALLY impressed by that huge selection of stuff!!!
BTW, I cannot see that beloved S.A.M. I was using in C64 times:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_Automatic_Mouth
does it belong to Chipspeech (in whatever form you decide to shape it)?
Thanks,
Cochrane

Hi Cochrane.
Still undecided about SAM. But its really tempting.
The fact that there is already a SAM synth here on kvr makes its addition potentially superfluous.
In fact the line I dont want to cross is that I need to own a legit copy of SAM to pursue. (been looking very hard)
I guess I could add it as an external freebie of some sort, since the code of the SAM reverse engineering efforts has already been done by a few people and very well.
Also its not a "chip" per se

Hi David,
thanks for your reply.
I see about licensing issues, btw I vote for adding S.A.M.: blending it together other speech emulation technologies would be a dream come true!
Thanks a lot for such an awesome work: awaiting eagerly for Chipspeech release...

I have to say that of any upcoming releases, this is the one I'm most excited about.
As for S.A.M.
Is there a dedicated SAM plugin, or are we just talking about one that has a SAM Easter-egg? If it's the easter-egg, I wouldn't worry. As much as I'm a fan of the mode, it's not exactly user friendly but just one of the best Easter-eggs I've come across in a long time.
Either way, (legality of including it willing of course), I think it would be a nice touch. Whether it's apart of the initial release, or an added upgrade later on, having that mode would simply extend the functionality of it in a way that a user could expect from something called Chipspeech (and yeah, I saw it's not a chip).
I'm just saying it'd be nice to have single tool to go to for synthetic voicing/speaking. Obviously... no pressure. As a user, it's hard not to advocate for including more.

David, I'm all over this... I have a similar pile of speech enabled vintage toys (with less and less room for these days). Virtual versions would be incredible.
I have a Highly Liquid MIDISpeak http://makezine.com/2006/10/18/midispea ... eaknspell/ for my S&S (yet to be assembled). The MIDISpeak has a mode which can trigger all sorts of phonemes from ROM, not just virtual button presses. Will this be possible (not just letters/words), so you can play/sequence glitched-out sounds and pseudowords?
A couple of over-the-top v1.5/v2 requests:
Have you considered virtual bend points so that this type of thing is possible (this is a discontinued MIDISpeak kit on a bent S&S)?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fD_ifCVXVoA
Will you have French/German/Japanese models included as well (which use different phonemes)?

The initial release will have two main modes, singing from user input text, and the bending mode where static data streams can be played in various ways depending on the chip and available data (licenced or user imported). So you can do typical speak and spell bending noises, blurpey word segments and more. The video teaser has a few of that stuff in the mix.
cheers

The German Buddy Speak and Spell is VERY rare, I still dont have one.
Though I did find a Japanese one (grey in photo), a UK and French (Dictée Magique).
We have extracted and preserved the data contained in all our units (a really LONG) process
But since these devices contain copyrighted sound ROMs, and that lots have different copyright owner, its without a doubt that the product will NOT ship with the data from everything in this photo! (although we would love nothing more).
But bending is not the central feature of the product. The singing voices are.

I hear you! Just that at this point if we want to ship for our target date (wont tell), then we must concentrate on fine tuning the voices we have already.elxsound wrote: I'm just saying it'd be nice to have single tool to go to for synthetic voicing/speaking. Three round-button Speak'n'spells? Crivvens, they're rather hard to get get hold of, much more expensive than membrane ones.
Got a SpeakJet in there somewhere?
