I posted this on GS, but figured I'd post it here as well.

This is a demo of a preset I made with the new Dense Room algorithm in ValhallaRoom. It's the first time I've been able to get a hall to sound better to me than one of the Bricasti M7 IRs, and I actually like this considerably more. Sorry if my quicky vocals (om mani padme hum) are painful.

Synths have a light blend of reverb (a plate and chamber) from ValhallaRoom throughout. Drums, vocals, and piano are dry the first couple measures. In the following measures the drums have a light touch of the hall (why not), vocals have a moderately high amount, and then the piano has quite a bit. You can hear the piano ring out at the end. The modulation is fairly high.

Reverb Send Chain:
Britson Channel --> Cubase MonoDelay -->ValhallaRoom -->IK EQP-1A --> IK White 2A

2Bus/Master Chain:
Britson Bus --> IK EQP-1A --> FabFilter Pro-L

No compression on the 2Bus.

FabFilter Pro-L in Transparent mode does a beautiful job of retaining the smooth gradients of reverbs and their source sounds.

It's late. This quicky demo was mixed with headphones.

Edit: demo is no longer available

I've been making more presets for the new Dense algorithm in ValhallaRoom. This is a demo of my favorite one so far. There is no dry version this time. The reverb is on the vocals and more lightly on the drums. The vocal silliness is just what popped out of my mouth when I laid something down to test the reverb with. Hopefully it doesn't make your ears bleed ... too much.

Anyway, I am never really happy with reverbs. Each one I try I hear something in that I don't like. This new Dense algorithm however just pleases me, and I can't really say why.

Reverb Send Chain:

2Bus/Master Chain:

There are two presets in the download. They only difference in them is the decay time. The shorter one sounds really nice on piano.

Yeah, dense room is nice.

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to figure out a good preset for '80s metal guitar - something like Van Halen I, Scorpions (No One Like You, for example), etc. Does anyone have an idea how I can achieve this in VRoom (or VVV, for that matter)?

Thanks!

Thank you

Where are the Valhalla Shimmer presets!?

So many for Room, and none for Shimmer - that can't be right!?

Or is it that Shimmer is more of a one-trick-pony? I was hoping to discover more sides to Shimmer through the exploration of some new presets. No love at all?

But thanks for these amazing plugins, Sean!

Post

It's not a one trick pony - there are huge reverbs and then there are the huge pitch shifted reverbs - I have an Eventide H9 and I think that Shimmer covers much the same territory as two separate Eventide algos, Shimmer and Blackhole.

Yes, but my real question is - where are the presets for Shimmer?

Seems like Shimmer Presets need their own thread, or to be added to another! Or is there some reason why Shimmer presets have been neglected? I'm new to using Shimmer, and trying to fast-track to the greater depths of the beast!

Love what I'm hearing from demoing Shimmer, but wondering if I should buy Room instead, as there seems to be 1000% more user presets, and that sure is appealing (or maybe revealing)!

Post

There's at least two great sets of presets available for Shimmer from Synth-Presets and Sami Younes.
Lots of presets, great sound and not too expensive either...

I think there is less preset activity because parameter wise Shimmer is fairly simple when compared to Sean's other reverbs.

Shimmer is very different from Room. If you don't need the pitched reverbs you would probably be better getting Vintage Verb.

Watch this Shimmer video, twiddle the knobs, and then make your own presets. :)

Showed me a load of stuff I never would have realised if I hadn't seen it, some great ideas.

Thanks for the insightful video, Hermetech Mastering! Some fine tips in there.

Love this thread. Needs a revival. Some of the links are down, in particular FabledAudio and Sound29Studio. Maybe someone could zip them back on here?
