Hello,

I am thinking of buying a DAW to make music.
I am quite new in DAWs World, but not completely new to music. Anyway, Bitwig strongly caught my attention for its price and because I can buy amazing Bundles with it.
My question is: is Bitwig suitable for a beginner? Talking about Ableton, for example, I can count on tons of material, books and courses, etc. Do I risk to get lost if I chose Bitwig?
I tried both Ableton and Bitwig (demo versions) and they look similar in their functionalities and UI concept. That's why I got the idea that maybe I could start with Bitwig. What's your opinion?

Thanks!

Yes most definitely. Dont open any other DAW. bitwig is the future. :) I used Live for years and now I am 100% exclusively using bitwig since its release. Also after all the stuff they have done for 1.1 I can say that these guys at bitwig are on fire with making this DAW the best ever. You can tell they are putting their heart and soul into it.

The only important thing at my opinion is how well you know your main instrument. Whatever you choose, you should learn it from cover to cover. Personally I like Bitwig more than Ableton. But bear in mind that I am not a professional music producer.

The best way to learn is to ignore any resources (online or books, etc).
I taught my self FL Studio back in the day from having no clue how a DAW is supposed to work, then I tried
Cubase which was sort of similar but actually completely different.
Then I tried Ableton which confused the hell out of me at first (because of their non-linear approach), but
I got the hang of it quite quickly.

The only online resources I used were mostly for the plugins themselves and not the DAWs.

If I had the chance, I would most definitely start with Bitwig and also with no resources (Except the manual of course).
Bitwig covers a lot of the best of all DAWs in one package, and because it's new AND YOU are new, you will start
getting a hang of it when Bitwig will be starting to pull it's weight with even more features from other DAWs and maybe some new ones
that are non-existent (Like their work in progress modular system).

As for the price it's very good and for the value it's even better. Bitwig did't break their product into catagories and price ranges like
a lot of software companies do. For example: Ableton you need the "Suite" version to have access to the Multi-Sampler.
Where in Bitwig you have access to EVERYTHING from the get go and you only splash out more for future Packs or probably major updates (Version 1 to version 2, etc).

Also remember Bitwig comes with a lot of the most used built-in plugins that are standard across most DAWs,
from compressors, distortions, synths, etc. And also quite a huge Sample library that is also new and not in
circulation with existing music tracks out there.

All included (Except the library just needs to be downloaded from within Bitwig, for free).

And of course you get 3 licenses for 3 OS's (Mac, Windows and Linux).

tl;dr: Bitwig is definitely a great DAW for beginners.
Amateurs worry about equipment, professionals worry about money, masters worry about fidelity. I just make music.

BWS is great for a beginner, thx for the series of Brian Bollman : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... aRHYWDncW8 u can learn it in and out, Ableton Live can be much more overwhelming

...and it's already the the fourth best DAW in the world

:D

(IMO the best non-productivity DAW would be: Bitwig 1.1 + the piano roll of FL Studio + ReWire)

Hello everybody!

Thanks for the very constructive replies. I definitely know what to do now :). You've been quite convincing!
I'll play another bit with the demo version, and then I'll go for a bundle.

Cheers!

It's actually amazing how many videos and materials there are already available, although Bitwig Studio is quite young compared to other DAWs.

Many links here:

There are also these commercial Videos available from the Bitwig shop: http://www.bitwig.com/en/shop/shop.html

Enjoy!

Quite young compared to other DAWs? Well I guess you could say its around 3 years old in reality. But for actual road test miles, Bitwig is still breast feeding compared to other DAWs. :)

Since i'm linux users for 10-15 years i didn't had much experience with daw's. Only some daw on linux to play with, but nothing like bitwig or other commercial daw's, but it was good enough to learn little bit. Since Bitwig came out i played with the demo and bough it.

it's so easy to play with and everything is going fast. Since i'm on bitwig i don't use other linux daw's anymore.
Bitwig is like heaven on earth to me :-). It was the first piece of software i bought, since it's not opensource, free but i don't regret it. I love it.(however my axiom 49 still doesn't work on my desktop :-))

I quickly made a few things with pro tools, I had a licence with the eleven rack, but It was a burden to set up a windows partition just for that. Not very convenient.
I got bitwig and run it on my linux box, works very well. I recorded and mixed a few tracks for my band.
I like the layout, the workflow, it seems pretty natural for me.
Now, I can use a Panorama P4 and it enhance even further the experience.
If you are a real noob, like me, I recommand to give it a try.

Music production, while highly addictive, is not terribly expensive. If you purchase
only software items that allow resale, you can always make changes and recoup
some of the unwanted/needed investments. There are a few side possible effects,
such as uncontrollable bursts of gas, and divorce, usually in that order :hihi:

Hi.

As a beginner defently yes!
I started with fl studio, used it for years. i know fl studio inside out. It took a long time learning fl studio.
Might be because i started with it before youtube and didn´t have any direction and help and without experience.
I learned bitwig in 6 days and my friend in 4 days after watching videos.

To compair fl studio and bitwig fair in a beginners perspective.
The workflow in fl studio is a mess with all routings, naming everything and also the mixer is terible.
Bitwig is much more straightforward. Name the track one time and its namned in mixer and every place else.
When you put an virtual instrument it gets its own mixerchannel without need of routing.
Fl is a mess. Because of that, bitwig will make you learn produce faster because no need troubling with routings and shit.
