I'm pleased to at last climb onboard the AAX train, and the rollout begins with String 1.14.10. This release candidate adds AAX Native 64-bit support on both Mac OS X and Windows.

If anyone would like to give it try before I make this the official release next week, I'd be greatly thankful; note that you don't need to be a registered String owner to try it out. Any feedback or problems discovered would be greatly appreciated. I can be contacted either by reply here, PM, or email.

The only 'known issue' thus far is that the AAX version doesn't support a custom initial preset. Whilst the other plug-in formats allow one to specify any preset as default for a new instance, this, for various technical reasons that I won't bore you with, is not so in the AAX version. Hopefully I'll find a way around this in a future release.

This release also fixes a bug whereby MIDI learnt parameters could be become forgotten on reload, as well as offering much better performance on real-time and/or extreme low latency systems. So it's a worthwhile update for non-AAX users too, then.

Note that AAX support is currently 64-bit only. I can't see a lot of reason for shipping 32-bit AAX builds when Pro Tools 10 users can still use the RTAS versions, but if anyone has any need for 32-bit AAX support, let me know and I'll see what's possible.

And Aspect AAX is now available too. A hiccup with Mac OS X Yosemite forced me to do an early release, so if anyone does find any problems, don't hesitate to let me know and I'll endeavour to get it fixed asap.

I've now uploaded Sequent 1.4.0 as a beta for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. This release adds:

(new) AAX 64-bit Native plug-ins for Windows and Mac OS X.
(new) Start step can now be set for all sequencers.
(improvement) Patterns and sequencers can now all have different step lengths.
(fix) Looper module no longer lose pitch modulation settings when swapping between patterns.
(fix) Fixed CPU spike which could rarely occur when switching patterns via MIDI.
(improvement) Various host compatibility fixes.

The start step feature is particularly nice; you can use it to account for arrangements where a time signature means that step 1 no longer lands on a beat, or to offset sequencers against one another.

Yikes, bug number one found: Sequent apparently fails AU validation on older versions of Logic. I'll look into this now, and aim to get it updated as soon as possible. In the intermin, I'd suggest Mac OS X users hold back on updating until I've investigated and fixed this issue.

I've posted an update, Sequent 1.4.1 for Mac OS X, which can be found here. This release adds the following fix:

(fix: Mac OS X Audio Unit) Sequent now passes Logic's AU validation.

The links above have also been updated to the 1.4.1 build.
