Check out VSTForx:

It's not free, but it's very cheap. The developer has a forum here at KVR, so you could ask questions about it there:

I see it is only a stand-alone. So this is ruled out by me.

Buze

Apparently this is also a stand-alone and not a VST or VSTi.

Correct me if I am wrong.

sorry if i am mistaken, but isn't bitwig supposed to be fully modular? Haven't used it in that way so can't comment (even reason i use as a traditional DAW, left to right, inserts and sends, don't use cv's much at all).

Post

Oh and there's also tracktion racks, but again, i don't use them, but i believe some stuff can be done in there.

@TheoM

Bitwig Studio 2.0 will have a modular system afaik.

Post

What's not clear at the moment is whether that will make Bitwig a modular DAW or just a regular DAW with a modular device building environment that can interact with the DAW (as with M4L). In a fully modular DAW (like MuLab and Usine) the whole signal path is modular, including the routing of audio and midi in and out of tracks, sequencers, arps, audio recorders and other forms of processing component.

will have access to the integrated Modular System, enabling the modification of existing devices, or the creation and design of entirely new ones.
judging by this sentence it seems it will be more about the devices i think. But since there are the routing devices..we'll see

That is my impression too so far. But it would be great if you could treat sequencers, clips and tracks just as objects within a fully modular environment (as in Logic's environment, although that only handles midi, not audio).

Post

Just out of interest, was Logic the first modular DAW or were there even earlier ones? (maybe on Amiga?)
