Not bad, but I think the Elektostudio mellotron emu is far better :)

The one I really like is Redtron.

The three versions of Redtron use all the same samples... but have different features. So... I have the three installed.

I strongly recommend you to install the three editions of Redtron. Each one has its special features. And you must put all the three DLL in the same directory! So they will all three use the same sample files... which are (and must stay!) in the subdirectory of Redtron SE (this one is therefore required because only this one has the sample files).

And here you have in brief the story of these samples used by Redtron... with in bonus two other sets of tapes coming from the same Mellotron. The tapes in addition are the "Gc3 Brass" tapes and the "Gong" tapes but they are provided in WAV, not in SF2. But Artifake Labs has had the kindness to convert them, so you can download them here and you unzip them in the same subdirectory where are the first sf2 files. For the record... it's good to know that these samples have been made years ago by a guy called Taijiguy and these samples are especially famous because they are precisely those which are the most used in Kontakt!

And if you use a free sampler/rompler like TX16Wx (for example), you can use all these samples in your own sampler/rompler! Because in this second website the samples are provided in the native WAV format. Redtron reads these samples only in the sf2 format.

Redtron is really a must have! Everybody knows the famous Mellotron samples used in Kontakt... those used in Redtron are the same! They come from these same sets made by Taijiguy in wav in 2003, 2008 and 2010.

Elektrostudio has made a very good instrument with his Tapeotronic, yes. The sounds are excellent (all his plugins are very good). The only problem I find with it is... it has a very small choice of sounds. It's an instrument he had made only for him at the beginning but he found nice to distribute it like all his other plugins. What I'd really like him is to improve Tapeotronic one future day... This instrument merits much more than a single anecdotal rank.

But really... everyone should know Redtron. It makes you access directly to the legendary samples made by Taijiguy!

Thanks for the links / Information BlackWinny, very interesting. :)
I have installed and played around with the Redtron's and do find them to be very good replicas of the original melotron, I think that I can only really use the RedTron MKV. The text on the hidden panel on both the RedTron400 and ReTron SE is very hard to read (even wearing my glasses) :?

I also have the TX16Wx but can't find a way to load the wav samples that you link to :?

Who made this rarity?

I'ven't found any further information by Google. Only this JPG file:
Image

But it doesn't show the name of the developer.

And the "About" box by the GUI doesn't show it either... nor the txt file which is in the zip file.

And it's funny... the mod wheels are at the right side of the keyboard!

I think it's MZTK's own synth.

Thanks, RBR!

Can you confirm, MZTK?
It's for the management of my collection...
It is sorted by "Developer\Plugin", so... I miss an essential information for my own database...

I found Tapetronic has a high pitched whine that makes it pretty much unusable. Redtron is far better. The other Elektrostudio synths are pretty good.

Soundwise I do agree, but as mentioned the RedTron400 and ReTron SE have very difficult to read UI's on the hidden panels :( I have been having some fun with the RedTron MKV though :tu:

Yes. Have you tried to change the colors by using a tool like Resource hacker, Resource Editor, or something like that? Something in the kind of what you've suggested for Ragnarok and some other synths...

Myself I don't know at all how to use these tools but perhaps you could try...

Another solution that I use quite frequently when the GUI has not too many elements... I wrap it in an instance of Mutools MUX. This way I have everything available... with the nice look of MUX.

I could be wrong, but Res hacker can't change the GUI on a synthedit vst, res hacker is the only one that works for me on windows 8.1

I haven't read through the whole 795 pages, so I'm wondering if anyone has mentioned any good vst drum machines. I just want a simple pleasant looking interface with an intuitive sequencer and many great sounds/kits, and preferably no unusable sounds/kits. I'd pay for something like that, but there doesn't seem to be anything!

Post

There haven't been many free drum plugins that had a sequencer, there are mine, (click signature link), but good luck actually finding them on my site-look for beat census, that's a passable one.

As for actual good sounds, you can use one of mine, set it to midi output only, and drive any other drum plugin. GTG had some good drum ones, check those.
