Very interesting. That will teach me not to buy a book of quotations from a bargain book store ever again !StudioDave wrote:

It's worth chiming in over at CDM just to wind up the Mac heads who hide behind the sofa whenever Java is mentioned lol

CDM is a very pro Ableton website. I always wonder if Peter Kirn works for them. Bitwig is a neat piece of software I don't own it yet as it does not support Rewire but I won't bash it simply because my needs are not met.
KFish needs to answer a simple question. What is an outdated sound?

It's funny reading all the comments about us being lazy for using Java. It's not like we're using the increased efficiency of using a language which is safer and faster to develop to make our product more stable and bring you new features faster or anything..

This is a quote of a very wise developer.kurasu wrote:It's funny reading all the comments about us being lazy for using Java. The Java debate is fascinating. Not so much because of the content, but because of the tone. (Passionate, quasi-religious)
Wankers come to mind.
Btw, I'm a Mac head who doesn't go all nuts about Java, but I do wonder if it means that at some point I may be faced with some sort of issue given the history of apple's Java support.
Guess I'll deal with it when/if that happens. In the meantime....
Rock on!

Greetings,
I've met Peter Kirn, we spoke at a conference together at Virginia Tech a few years ago. He's a great guy, very knowledgable. And no, I don't think he's an Ableton spokesman, at least he wasn't at the time we met. In fact, he and Brad Garton talked me out of buying a Mac, at that time they were openly critical of Apple and its policies.
re: Java: One of my main applications here at Studio D is Jean-Pierre Lemoine's AVSynthesis, a deep and complex audio/visual composition environment. Its audio is handled by Csound, graphics by JOGL, the Java/OpenGL interface. I've used AVS for many years, on a variety of machines and systems (all Linux). It's fast, doesn't crash, and has amazing power. Jean-Pierre has much experience programming in Java - AVS is the latest in a long line of his Java+Csound environments - so it's a plus that he knows what he's doing. As far as I can tell, so do the programmers at Bitwig.
Some old information about AVSynthesis:

I maintain a correspondence with the developer to keep up-to-date.
