hey forum,
I´m looking for the correct term for those little short phrases in old (and new) games..
...about 2-4 seconds long, occur when you clear a level, the player dies, gets a powerup etc.
Longer than just a "blip" sound effect.
Does anyone know how these are called?
Thanks in advance!

Level beat themes are called victory fanfares and usually consist of an ascending motif based on whole tones. The others are just referred to as "x theme", like "game over theme" or whatever. Often, they are just (from a technical point, at least) a sound effect consisting of more than one musical event (famous example, getting a 1-up mushroom, that little melody that plays).
