Thanks! I learned to mix each channel differently rather than use common effects for master channel.
Also, now prefer to avoid drums and bass reverb, it muddies things and reduces groove punch.

I'm late to the party with this, so some of these comments may be redundant. I just listened to both versions online now. I can definitely hear some problems with the timing on the non-extreme version, which still seem to be present on the extreme version. My main criticism of the extreme version is the distortion panning around. I think the synth playing the main chord riff is responsible for that, as I don't think it's present on the sections where only the bass and kick is present. It's probably a levelling problem on that synth mixer channel, but I suppose it may may be deliberate. I liked the dog. Even if you decide not to continue with this track, you should try to fix the mix. It will help you in your future compositions.

Good work :)

Thanks, appreciate the advice. Yes, I am trying to nudge the timing in place with Reaper. The reason the timing is sloppy is I never used a click track to lay down a base timing track. Also, I learned that distortion doesn't appeal to many listeners so I am backing off from using that too much now. Good learning process.
