So here's a free set of drum and bass samples which I've recorded from my Yamaha PSS-390 toy keyboard. The keyboard features a simple on-board FM synthesizer, meaning that you can make your own patches with it.

Programming it is tons of fun, so I tried to make some interesting bass sounds with it and used them for this free sample library. The drum sounds are also included.

The library works with Kontakt 5 and bmovie has kindly provided SFZ mappings in the comments section on the page linked below. These mappings will be added to the main pack later on.

It's not a toy keyboard :P

The Yamaha PSS series was made for the home market, but are not just for kiddy play.

I have a PSS470 - love it - sounds better than any software FM I've used imo. In the following track the bass (both basslines) comes from the 470 as does most of the sounds from the 2 min 40 mark.

Nice one ... i used to own a PSS-680. Great for bass sounds so long as you roll all of the top end off. Mine had a high pitched 'whine' ... solid bottom end tho' ...

Yeah the PSS680 was actually my first keyboard. Learnt a lot with that. And I do have access to a PSS480 as well now! Basically the same as the 680 but one octave less/no pitch bend wheel/no drum pads. There's something I love about a lot of these old keyboards. I also have a Casio MT-400v - lovely little 'home' synth with a soft but quite fat sounding analog filter. Sounds very Roland SH101 like and even quite oberheim like.

Pretty cool track, I like it. It has an indie electronic feel to it and it's well composed. Bravo! :tu:
