Painful

But it has

'real simulated wood grain sides'

I laughed out loud at that comment
So did Daniel, its impossible not to really. Constructed from Oak timbre perhaps.

What is so stupid is that the Wolf and the Cat have such a similar structure, and only seem to differ in a few details... it's kinda like a ploy to get you to buy both, when a more scrupulous company might have tried to pack most of that functionality into the same box, at the same price.

I mean, let's face it, the toms are just the kick but up half an octave, the clap is just the white noise with a repeating volume ramp, etc, etc. It doesn't need to be two boxes.

It doesn't really need to be one box! :hihi:

In my opinion a more scrupulous company would have not released any of the Wolf devices as they are.

Let's see...I can buy a timber wolf or Omnisphere 2 for the same price... Now there's a tough call.

Props to the knobs...wait, no...I mean the knobbs are just props...

And putting an AKAI t-shirt on seems like snorting drugs, 'cause these guys sure look like they are on something...

I don't think Dan did a bad job on the TomCat demo, but it's like demoing a Toyota Echo - sure, it's a car from a respectable company, but what can you really say about it?

They were caught off guard by the whole inexpensive hardware / product-line trend and they rushed and got greedy. But you need to back that up with some decent sound and personality. It doesn't have to be mind-blowing - you can get 90% of the way there "in the box"; no one really needs these products. But putting together a rig with a few Brutes, Volgas, stomp-boxes, maybe a "signature" piece like a Moog when the money's there - it's a fun journey and in the end it's all yours.

Akai swung and missed. They'll recover. But not before some giggles are had at their expense :hihi:

Akai Professional was acquired by inMusic Brands (an Amercian company) in 2012. It's not the same "respectable company" that created those classic samplers. inMusic Brands bought the Akai brand so it could sell low quality junk with the Akai name on it.

inMusic Brands owns all of these brands:

AIR Music Technology
Akai Professional
Alesis
Alto Professional
Denon Professional
Denon DJ
ION Audio
M-Audio
Marantz Professional
MixMeister
Numark
Sonivox

Let the buyer beware.

Knew they were acquired but not the details - that's a lot of consolidation that won't necessarily be good for musicians.

Mystery solved I guess then :/

I guess we'll be seeing these at RadioShack, next to the ION usb-cassette players.
I predict InMusic purchases Samson next.

Interestingly, they purchased Sonivox AFTER Wobble and Twist. Those products must have sealed the deal...

At any rate, I was inspired by these new offerings to purchase a Bass Station 2 today. :hyper:

…or maybe Behringer?

The BassStation 2 is a good purchase i reckon… it's actually very versatile for a 'bass synth'.

Lol, as strange as it may seem, Behringer is BIG business; I doubt they can afford to buy them :) Maybe the other way round

Yes, inMusic has been collecting mostly bankrupt brands. It would be expensive to acquire a brand that is doing well.

The highlights from their history are:

1992 - purchased Numark Electronics
2001 - purchased Alesis
2005 - purchased Akai Professional
2012 - purchased Sonivox, AIR Music Technology, and M-Audio

Under one roof, they can efficiently market crappy products under a variety of brand names.

Good news! inMusic is hiring. You can be part of the branding "magic" that produced the Timbre Wolf:
