Significant Updates for HALion 5 and Groove Agent 4

DO NOT update to version 5.1 of HALion.
There are host crashing issues with certain presets. For example "Real Fingered Modern Bass" will bring down Cubase with anything from a few seconds to several minutes of playing.
Best guess, atm, is it relates to a bug in the MegaTrig function. See posts here

http://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtop ... 59&t=74035

Note to Steinberg: This is an easy to spot bug, which likely would've been caught quickly with a wider beta testing circle.
That's assuming 5.1 wasn't released knowing this bug was in there.

Hello,
Best regards,
GN
Are you experiencing this bug? Or are you posting this "recommendation" based on the threads mentioned above, I have tried to reproduce them but might be a PC only thing, If you are experiencing this, what are your system specifications.PAK wrote:DO NOT update to version 5.1 of HALion.

Yep. The Megatrig function is crashing the 5.1 update badly enough to bring down the host.Guillermo Navarrete wrote:Are you experiencing this bug?
No. Those threads merely verify other people are experiencing the exact same bug. Thus the recommendation.Or are you posting this "recommendation" based on the threads mentioned above
I also CRC checked the vstsound files (I have several systems) to make sure the issue wasn't corrupt library files. It's a problem with the update itself.
Specifically, it's the x64 VST3 version on Windows 7. Same result with 7.5 and 8.05 used as host.
Here's the consistent part of the Windows crash message..
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: Cubase8.exe
Application Version: 8.0.5.418
Application Timestamp: 54919ea2
Fault Module Name: HALion 5.vst3
Fault Module Version: 5.1.0.58
Fault Module Timestamp: 54b92b5e
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 000000000029568b
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
The fact that such basic bugs (crashing on playing certain presets, no other user actions required) are escaping into Steinberg's Windows releases is rather concerning..

I did experience a couple of crashes in the stand-alone. I believe they were bass patches I was running jazz scales at the time, but not sure since it was right after the update.
Haven't experienced any problems in the DAW though (at least not yet).
Still interested in a way to not have to take out their ASIO drivers for use and put them back in for updates though. (My current drivers are the required ones for the MOTU interface).

Hello all,
We have confirmed these issues: The Windows installer sometimes fail to find the original installation and the MegaTrig module sometimes renders the application unstable.
We are already preparing a 5.1.1 update to fix both issues.
Best regards,
GN

Thank you for the update Guillermo.
I really hope the managers, responsible for Quality Assurance funding at Steinberg / Yamaha, take note that the Windows testing processes are causing concern with end users. Not just how bugs like this are getting through in HALion, but also how the initial 8.0 version of Windows Cubase was ever allowed to be released.
Steinberg / Yamaha's managers shouldn't think they can continue down this path without eventual consequences which damage the brand.. Hopefully they provide the developers and staff with the support and funding they require, rather than focus on meeting release dates, regardless of the quality of what's released.

Okay I see I don't need the special installer app for Yosemite anymore thanks.
Does this mean Halion 5 is now supported in Yosemite?

Yes, it says it so on the downloads page, if you look carefully on the Mac OS box it reads: MAC Os X 10.9 and 10.10TwoToneshuzz wrote:Okay I see I don't need the special installer app for Yosemite anymore thanks.

I still have to keep moving the asio dll files to do an update though. And if I just leave them there they continue to override my PCIe MOTU drivers and cause nothing but noise.

I just downloaded the Halion trial due to the Valentine promo, but I can't apply the code to my elicencer. Get an error saying a license of the same type already exists and I need to use a different elicencer. My elicencer only contains Nexus 2....anyone know what gives?

Hello,

It means that you already have used a trial code in that eLicenser in the past, you can only use one trial activation code per eLicenser.db3 wrote:I just downloaded the Halion trial due to the Valentine promo, but I can't apply the code to my elicencer. Right I see. I do recall downloading the Halion Sonic 2 trial a while ago, but I couldn't install that on Yosemite. Perhaps this is the same demo as Halion 5?Guillermo Navarrete wrote:It means that you already have used a trial code in that eLicenser in the past, you can only use one trial activation code per eLicenser.db3 wrote:I just downloaded the Halion trial due to the Valentine promo, but I can't apply the code to my elicencer. There's nothing showing on my eLicense now. Perhaps I registered the serial before installing, and it was removed at the end of the trial period.
