Demis Roussos has died aged 68. His work with Vangelis in Aphrodite's Child was some of the best prog rock ever made. RIP. :(

Oh that's sad. I heard his solo singles when I was growing up and didn't like them, but later in life I discovered Aphrodite's Child, which was an entirely different - great material.
Sweet child in time...

The old cliche says that these things come in three's. The other day I was posting in the Edgar Froese thread and here I am again in this thread.

I did not know Demis' work particularly well, but what I did know, I liked. I mainly knew his music via Aprhrodite's Child and via Vangelis (e.g. Bladerunner). I remember a number of years ago there was a hijacking and when the hijackers found out that Demis was on the flight they gave him a birthday party (it was his birthday) and they set him free. I remember thinking that was pretty cool!

RIP Demis. Another icon moves on. :(

...and it was few days ago when I listened Four Horsemen. Great song. RIP DR. (and EF)

A great singer indeed. He and Vangelis were mates since their youth, and actually, after Aphrodite's Child dismissal, Vangelis earn a considerable amount of money writing songs for Demis Roussos, then a rising star, and that, coupled with the success of the music composed for the documentaries of Frédéric Rossif, gave him enough to found Nemo Studio in London.

Vangelis later helped Demis in the 90s, when he was already in the pinnacles of his fame, and Demis was somehow in decline.

It's curious that the voice of Jon Anderson, with whom Vangelis had a strong collaboration, has some similarities, in terms of register, with the voice of Demis Roussos.

For posterity, here is the song Rain and Tears, perhaps the biggest success of Aphrodite's Child (maybe you recognize also the keyboardist ;-) ):

What a surprise, didn't know it's Demis Roussos singing in Blade Runner, and it's not real language too.
