After sweating all day-and-night to keep the Timbre-Wolf in tune, wipe away the perspiration whilst listening back to the masterpeice you have created. Why wait while you wash? The Wolf is with you wherever you want.

Since there's already rhythm wolf + timbre wolf and tomcat, what would it be called.. wet pussy?

seriously..... unless this thing costs $99 I have no idea what drugs they were on.
Its interesting and different but pretty limited in terms of timbre, quite ironic.
The Volca Keys is more versatile.......Im happy to be wrong
You know it's $499 right?
And for $399 you can do a lot better. :tu:

just before they started making controller keyboards like the lpk25

A lot of akai hate in here haha

Post

yeah what are you laughing about? who's going to make
decent samplers once everyone gets disenchanted with
computer sampling?

that's the sound of disappointment rather than hate.
people want to believe. make an effort. putting some
middle management git in front of it who clearly does
not give a shit whether it is arthur or martha - reminds
me of some people who worked for record labels and
wanted a 'proper job' more than to exercise the need for
music.

this could have been a good series. what happened?
terrible demos, anyway..

Not hate, but disappointment, indeed. They've already made a big mistake with last year's Rhythm Wolf which turned out to be terrible and you'd think they've learned their lesson; but no, they show up with a half-baked "polysynth" that can't stay in tune at all and sounds just awful. Plus the sloppy design (why the exposed screws on the front panel?!?). And the price tag makes everything looks like a derailed train going straight into a wall...

Totally agree...akai can't even get somebody to demo this synth properly...mind you I don't think that is actually possible on this unit
live 11 / Arturia collection / many Softube plug ins / thats it

Agreed, its not hate but dissapointment and pity. Its a genuine shame that a company with such a strong reputation has in recent years been reduced to the butt of jokes. Ever since old Macdonald - sorry I mean Jack'Odonnell bought them up its been downhill with stuff like the E-I-E-I-O, and the animal ranges. With an oink oink here....

Its just sad really. Each new revision of an Akai product goes down in quality. The APC controller being another example - first version built like a tank - new version is plastico fantastico.

I suppose the only good thing about it might be that if things keep going on this way the MPC range might price rocket in some years.

Post

the synth was a nice idea: could have been a kind of monopoly.
the rhythm wolf - i mean, i havent tried any of these, just judging
by the (paucity of) audio demos - was a sound idea. but if the
controls don't do much...wdf..? are these SMD boards, or full size
components? mayb if you modded the living shit out of them?

Post

Geez, how the mighty have fallen.
I have an Akai midi controller on my desk right now from like 2011 or so, that is notable, for me, due to its high quality build and feature set, and low cost.

Thanks to whoever listed out the companies that are consolidated under this 'brand'. No doubt every single thing coming out of them will be similarly gutted and overpriced. :(

While all you suckas were busy negging I've been have loads of fun with my own timber wolf:

Just look at that fine piece of equipment

PROS:
* good for bass, especially growly noises
* also pretty good for playing leads, pads, fetch and tugs
* low power consumption, basically a cup of kibble a day and you're good to go
* interfaces well with other wolves at the wolf park
* 12-16 year lifespan (wish it was more but whatcha gonna do)

CONS:
* fairly limited audio range, though at least it keeps away from the shrill yapping noises some of the smaller models make
* when akai says it has "internal feedback processing" they mean "eats own shit"

All in all I think it's a fine wolf at the price point and a good competitor to the Korg-E.
