Star Trek II - The Wrath Of Khan, and ALIENS...

Or maybe they just aren't rated as highly as I think they ought to be

2001: a space oddysey. Something different I guess. It was my very first musical purchase.

I always thought Ron Jones' work on Ducktales deserved more recognition:

Not sure if it's underrated, or if game soundtracks are even allowed, but i love the Oblivion soundtrack:

I really like Oblivion's soundtrack, but I absolutely adore Morrowind's. Morrowind was the first game I really fell head-over-heels in love with, and to this day I consider it one of the best I've ever played. I must have spent hundreds if not thousands of hours completing multiple play-throughs, and not once did I turn the music off.

I can't listen to the more aggressive "combat" music that plays whenever something attacks you, though, because it feels like there's a Cliff Racer after me.

as you said soundtrack rather than score id like to put forth the guardians of the galaxy soundtrack, lots of great tracks from 10cc to the runaways. even if youre not a fan of this kind of film id suggest a listen to the soundtrack, especially if youre a child of the 70s or 80s.

also the films alternative3 with stereolab, addntox and hairy butter providing the music or addntox's 'O' film.

if games are allowed then the grand theft auto games have some great tracks across their entirety.

my choices for scores would be different of course :)

I got the special edition of Morrowind way back when, and still have the soundtrack CD lying around somewhere. Great stuff!

I don't know if these are really underrated (who's doing the underrating, and is it valid?), but I have to lob in the cartoon soundtracks of yore, including (but not limited to) Tex Avery, Tom and Jerry, and Disney, of course. Those guys were incredibly innovative, and you can really hear the influence they had on the likes of Morricone, for example.

And L'ascenseur pour L'échafaud by Miles Davis, improvised and recorded in just a few hours, but really great, atmospheric noodlings.

"The Others"

Pretty crazy that the director wrote the score. Talented guy.
