Argh! How do I make this bass transient sound?

There's a certain bass sound that I love, with a sort of crunch in the the transient, and I don't know how to achieve it. It can be heard in the following:

Pale Green Ghosts by John Grant (especially after 1min 25secs)

Fade Away by Susanne Sundfor

Pills by Black Affair

I may be way off base, there may be something treble-y going on that is creating this effect (I'm a bit new when it comes to sound design), but I love this sound and I would love some advice on how to achieve it or something similar.
