That's because you didn't post a direct link, and I didn't get around to adding one for you like I usually do. Added now, so it should show up eventually (don't know how often the thing rechecks the submissions thread).

thanks for the well-wishes guys. i seem to have turned a corner with the pain. i think the antibiotics have reduced the inflammation enough to relieve most of the pressure. just have to look forward to all the digging and repair

i have not been part of this comp for a while, but thought this a great way to get back in. shame i missed it....

as for "prog" ?? :scared: :scared: :scared: don't know if i have the dexterity, nor the octaves...but i might have to give it a go....teeth permitting

gonna download the submissions today, and load up the ipod :tu:

Challenging because of the endless possibilities?

Or is this NOT Prog?

Or this fun cover of a lute piece by one of the greats of the early days of Rock:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2RNe2jwHE0
Wikipedia wrote:Progressive rock originally referred to progressive pop music or "classical rock" in which a band performed together with an orchestra, but the term's use broadened over time to include Miles Davis-style jazz fusion, some metal and folk rock styles, and experimental German bands. It does not refer to a single style but to an approach that combines elements of diverse styles. Jerry Ewing, editor of Prog Magazine, explains that "Prog is not just a sound, it's a mindset," and Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci points out that it is defined by its very lack of stylistic boundaries.
To me some of your contest entries could generally fit in with the stuff from that period quite nicely.

@rp314 : well, you're right, there could be a simple approach.
I was afraid that very often: Prog = Overdoing things.

I think the term was introduced to refer to a period starting, say, around 1967 when the growing popularity of FM radio and some publications like Rolling Stone seemed to pick up on changes that were taking place among young people that made it acceptable to introduce aspects of "serious music" into the realm of Rock/Popular music. Do you think that in 1968 youngsters were listening to Jazz artists like Rahsaan Roland Kirk? Probably not, but, if they picked up Jethro Tull's new album, whether they knew it or not, indeed they were. :hihi:

It's hard to say what meaning the term has anymore. For some of us, it will probably always be connected with stuff that was happening in that period but, regardless, it certainly was much broader in terms of style than what seems to have become the more accepted definition. 8)

Thanks, rachmiel. They are separate pieces. An overarching theme or connection or storyline, while welcome, wasn't part of the contest theme.

It was a pleasure being in a contest with all of you!

I think we all did well on a difficult (and interesting) challenge.

In my perfect world there'd be no voting and we'll all get tons of kudos and free VSTs. (Is my hippie showing?) :-)

Great fun month, as they always are :)
I'll skip next month because I have some extensive metal bass lessons coming up. Yeah, seriously :)
