Looking for something to make drums stick together and feel like a unit, but not compression. I don't want pumping and compression sound in general. Some kind of saturation/analog modeling I guess. Any ideas? Free is preferable but I'm interested in commercial stuff too.

The answer is in the question ;)
http://www.cytomic.com/glue

EDIT: I do realize you'd prefer free and my recommendation isn't. Soz.

Thanks for the replies. The Glue is a comp, but maybe I should spend some more time trying to make a comp work.

Faraday looks cool, but I forgot to say I'm on a Mac, and using Bitwig so only vsts.

Many apologies. I did balls that one up

You did clearly say no compression.

Take a look at the Klanghelm SDDR. Works wonders on the drum bus.

It sound like you want an EQ and Reverb. Try HarmoniEQ by Voxengo. I use it on busses a lot. Reverb wise, Valhalla DSPs are hard to beat, but I also use Magnus's Ambience (still) which is free. You should also check out Audio Damage ones.

Even though you said no comps, Voxengo also do Drumformer which is a channel strip.
I miss MindPrint. My TRIO needs a big brother.

Compressors don't just make things pump. You mentioned in a subsequent post, trying to make something like The Glue work. Try an SSL style compressor like The Glue, and set the attack to 10ms, the release to the fastest setting (or auto) and shoot for around 2 to 4db of compression on the meter. You shouldn't hear any pumping, but things should meld together nicely. If there's too much attack getting through, try increasing it some. The goal isn't to squash the drums, but just gently level them to make them sound more cohesive.

You should try blockfish. Its freeware, its a compressor, but it has a saturation knob on it which is pretty killer...its actually pretty deep for a simple compressor..and it rocks!! I could definitely do entire mixes with just that compressor alone.
There ya have it...

Mac only. :scared: There's a link to request Windows support though. Everybody, request Windows VST! https://goodhertz.co/format-request

SHaping the envelope of the drums on a global level is really how you create glue, so you better learn how to use a compressor :)

try parrallel compression, lot easier to get the effect without as much pumping that way

and try faster release settings

A little bit more money than Cytomic the Glue, but it gives you way more options in the long run.
