Anyone know where I can purchase or if anyone offers it to download for free?

Roland is the only one who can legally sell those samples.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Couldn't find any anywhere. This is a bit weird as there are almost limitless samples of hardware synth presets all over the net. Just can't find any of the JV. I know it's a digital rompler, but it seems to have a real character of its own. Saw a few youtube vids of a guy who makes his own really beautiful pads. I might buy a hardware unit on ebay.

I've been looking for jv-1080 sounds or jv like sounds and what I found is.

http://vst-store.com/products/kontakt-i ... 0-nki.html which is the XP-80 which if I'm not mistaken its the same sounds as the jv-1080 just maybe a bit more cleaner correct me if I'm wrong about that though (though I would not recommend getting these sounds simply because I tried the demo and the looping points cause bleeping in some sounds)

also found http://www.ebay.ca/itm/ROLAND-JV2080-XP ... 1305085525 which is the jv-2080 which I have not tried but by listening to there other demo's on sound cloud they seem like they would be pretty good

though if what deastman says is true that might mean both thoughs sample libraries are illegal unless they have permission or something

another alternative which I got and am happy with
is calliope or you can get purity/ravity from sonic cat http://sonic-cat.com/calliope/
they are not samples from the jv-1080 or anything like that but they are similar sounding in my opinion from what I've heard of the jv 1080 maybe better also calliope is on sale right at the moment

though I have not heard that many sounds from the jv-1080 so don't take my opinion to seriously

Yeah, thanks for the links ,I'll check them out.
I checked out a few videos comparing the jv models and the 1080 appeals to me most. The later models sounded too bright and sharp to me. Not sure if this was some kind of expectation bias or something.
There are a few 1080's on ebay atm which I'm keeping an eye on. I live in Australia, so I've got to add about $100 AUD postage onto the cost :(

Check out these from a guy on youtube....

The first one reminds me of Aphex Twin circa Selected Ambient Works Vol 2

I suppose these sounds could be achieved through vsti or sample synthesis, but I'm not sure that would capture the character. I can't really put my finger on it, but there's something really unique and recognisable about the 1080 sounds....no doubt due in part to being used so much in the 90s. It probably lacks the warmth of analogue, but they sound beautiful nonetheless. I'm at a point where I'm using more "digitally" sourced sounds. Getting a bit tired of the analogue revival (even virtual analogue).

Wow, is 15 bucks for 19 gigs of XP 80 samples legit?
Gotta check out the youtube demos. Won't be getting the 1080 filters with that though :(

I found this link for free jv 2080 samples on the website you pointed me to, but unavailable at the moment....

I own a JV-1080, bought new when it came out. I got it mostly because it could do 64 voices, and in those days all the synths had to be run live because disk recording was virtually non-existent. To be honest, it really isn't that great of a synth, although I suppose that doesn't matter if you really love the samples. The JD-990 (or JD-800) was a much more powerful synth from the same era.

Just had a peek at the youtube demos for the 990 and you're right it does sound impressive. The presets sound warmer and punchier than the 1080's....especially the basses. But the 1080 can be found for a third of the price and I've seen quite a few demos of user patches done (esp pads) on the 1080 which sound really beautiful....a combination of 80's/90's slickness with analogie warmth. Plus it's got that Vangelis/Serra/Phil Collins vibe that I'm seeking :D I'm hearing a lot of those 1080 patches are drenched in reverb too....so might try to audition without. Having said all that, I'll certainly keep the 990 in mind, but for the price I can get a brand new JD XI.

I have another question about the 1080 if you're still there. Are you able to synthesize patches from the basic waveform oscillator level, or are you limited tweaking/layering the provided preset PCM waves?
The more I listen to the JD990 demos the more I want it. Damn! :x

This thread's probably going to be moved soon.

One more- does the 990 and the 1080 share any of the same presets? I'm thinking about getting both. Can't go past the 1080 for it's pads, and the 990 for...well, everything.

Post

Both synths let you synthesize sounds from basic waveforms. But the synthesis capabilities of the 1080 are much more limited. If I recall correctly, its basic waveforms are still just samples. But it does have resonant filters, envelopes, even sample and hold. The 990 can do pulse mod, etc. and is just a much more capable synth. But it doesn't do 64 voices of polyphony. If you really just want a ROMpler, the 1080 is the way to go. If you want a decent synth, 990.

Ok thanks, good to know.

Really wish Roland and Yamaha would get around to virtualizing their legacy romplers like Korg did.

this is a very nice kontakt library based on the jd-800:
