My laptop is a late 2013 mbp retina with no dvd drive.
USB DVD drive: http://www.newegg.com/External-CD-DVD-B ... ory/ID-420

$25-$30 for basic model.

As for install... if you don't want to install to internal drive, you could (MAY BE ABLE TO) install to one of these bad boys: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

I have a few of those PNY thumb drives... they're pretty fast... question is: can you point Omni at an external drive for content?
yes-you can install the Steam folder on external drives

Each video is about five minutes, and demos about 10-12 Omnisphere 2 presets.
Really great stuff there! Best demo of Omni 2 I've heard yet. I've been avoiding Omni as I'm still working through the Komplete synths and Alchemy, but I'm thinking it's time to get on the bandwagon now. Since the shock of the Camel sale to Apple, I think it makes sense to buy from companies that will be there for the long term. I believe Spectrasonics will be one of those.
Thanks - glad you've enjoyed the demos.

Personally, I have avoided Komplete because of the sheer volume of synths and sounds, and I already have so many (probably too many) software instruments. Sometimes I can get overwhelmed by the sheer number of sound choices when composing - I almost yearn for the days when I was composing for General MIDI and had just 128 sounds to choose from. :)

But Omnisphere is an instrument unique unto itself. I could (and should) compose entire pieces using nothing but Omnisphere (although I need another instrument for drum kits, as Omnisphere does not have those).

Just ordered the update from the Spectrasonics online shop and now when I go to my user account I can see a new drop down under Omnisphere for ver. 1 or 2 but where do I get the download? Do they send a download link via email? :?

Yes, that certainly was the case. The original link on the account page was to the wrong installer and they took it down - I don't think they've put the right one up yet, so it should be in the order confirmation email.

The full version of Omnisphere must be purchased as a physical box. It contains a number of DVDs (mine is a bit older and has six).
There will likely be a refresh of the boxed product to v2 in the near future. For now you will have to purchase v1, contact support for the grace period free upgrade to v2 and then download the 18GB update.
Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that Omni 2 can be download as a whole without installing Omni 1 from Spectrasonic and that when you register, they will send download link. This impression came from the other Omnesphere where everybody was downloading something- some- upgrade, others- the full Omni 2. Was I wrong?

I personally ordered my full version of Omni 2 from Sweetwater and got some small discount. They arrived at Sweetwater today and will be shipped shortly.

Then you'll have the Omnisphere disks, but you'll still have to download the uprgrade.

I heard that boxed version comes with nothing but activation card. I guess I have to wait and see what I get.

You too? I was listening to Rush and Yes while classmates were into Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, etc. Never went to a single party in high school. Teenager and my favorite TV show was thirtysomething. Actually, I don't think I ever really was a teenager. Grrrrr!

So, regarding the new wavetables, I'm assuming some of them are designed to do dramatic wave scans (i.e. the kind of radical wave shifts previously associated with synths like PPG's/Microwaves)? The answer might be somewhere in the dozens of pages of posts already written about O2 but given that I've already been a cranky old man for three decades, I don't have time to read them all, since I'll be dead soon.
Ha! For me it was King Crimson and The Beatles. :ud:

Thanks very much for the demos, they're great.

I'd like to buy omnisphere for a school computer. I've just been looking at the patch names on the spectrasonic site, there are a few there that I wouldn't be able to use in a school (screaming bitchy bass etc). Does anyone know if it's possible to delete or rename presets?

Are these SSDs any benefit even if you only have USB 2? My MacMini is USB2/Thunderbolt but Thunderbolt-USB adapters cost more than those drives.

I'm in this same dilemma. I've been a Reason user for almost a decade and swear by it. I have a bunch of refills and I always tell myself I need more, I guess I'm a sound hoarder. A lot of the sounds that I have lack that pro warmth that I'm looking for out of the box. I'm now trying to decide to wait for Spire RE, buy Kontakt, or buy Omnisphere 2. I'm more into unique sounds than common sounds. I'm leaning towards Omnisphere 2 now.

You need to get off of the usb 2 drives. Figure something else out. How can it have TB and not USB 3?

It just does, but I recall lots of people using USB 2 SSD's in the past. Or is it going to limit the bandwidth too much?
