Anybody bought the new Studio One 3 (or demoed it), and could share their opinions?

What kind of synth already out there can it best be compared with?

It sounds great.

It's pretty standard in terms of functionality, though the 'character' section really helps for adding, well, character. It functions basically the same as the 'Osc FX' in Zebra 2

It's damn CPU intensive.

It's not worth buying an entire DAW for -- but there is NO bundled synth on this planet worth buying an entire DAW for.

It's a nice synth for basic sounds but I wouldn't buy S1 just to get Mai Tai.

I'm thinking that with Studio One 3 Artist, it is becoming a decent "Reason-style" closed system, as users get a good mono bass synth (Mojito), a poly-synth (Mai Tai) and advanced sampler (Presence).

So even though you can't utilizse third party VSTs in Artist, it's got whats needed already included in the box.

Mai Tai is not bad, but i`m not a really good sounddesigner to form an opinion. I think the handling is good because the minimalistic gui. It sounds big to my old ears :)
But only for this i wouldn`t buy s1
Mojito i don`t use, for me is to ugly and not really usable.
But Presence XT is big! The last hours i went thru the samples and sometimes they are very usable, the keys are surprising good, and the winds....wow.
For these 2 together, Maitai+presence (with the content) i would pay the update-price.
And the DAW has something more to go.

As I understand it the full version of Presence XT with the same library that ships with Artist version (1,56GB), is going to be included with the free version of Studio One 3

Mai Tai is a nice addition to V3. It's a good solid synth.

But considering I have so many that are as good or better I'd find it strange to upgrade for one decent synth alone.

I upgraded because I thought that the overall package was brilliant.

I don`t know exactly but i think to remember that i installed far more than 1,56GB for presence. but maybe i deceive oneself.

If you are demoing Studio One 3, you have probably installed the Pro version, which has a 14GB library.

No, not worth it!

And it's quite CPU hungry.
