Streamlined MIDI sequencers?

Are there any streamlined sequencers for MIDI only? I was thinking of something with very good MIDI recording and editing capabilities. I could later import the MIDI files to Reaper for final mixdown. I don't think MIDI editing is the most user friendly aspect of Reaper.

Why would you need a modern system from MIDI anyway is beyond me. They work just fine here.

I had the same interrogation a few months ago. I thaught that I could find a good midi sequencer for doing midi stuff in Reaper, but I quickly realized the overhead involved in working with two applications in parallel was too tedious. Instead, I started learning all the possibilities of the midi editor in Reaper, including customization.I rapidly came to the conclusion that the Reaper midi editor is an excellent one, with a ton of features. Do yourself a favor, take some time with it and you won't need an external midi editor.

googling "midi editors" instead of sequencer gives more results, I think
I liked the following (don't know if they can be considered "streamlined" though), I use them with loopMIDI to feed standalone synths or even my "main DAW", cheap version Live Intro, that has a track number limit:

If Mac is an option, look at NumerologySE. I enjoy it and while it can do some powerful stuff, it can be very basic and act as either a standalone, rewire device or as an AU "midi effect".
