In the 90s I started to lose track of what genre was what, and people even spend time arguing about which genre something falls in.

It's kind of weird how it's become so insanely subdivided to the point were tiny differences between pieces of music create so many genres.

Can't wait for "Waterslide music".

99.99% of trap music lyrics: celebrating & glamourising the very behaviour that keeps you in the trap.

darwin would be proud.

I like the music itself though.

HAHA! Damn...I created a monster with this thread. Totally forgot about it until now. Some of the comments here are hilarious :). Yeah, I definitely get how a lot of people don't like hip hop or trap. It really is it's own thing in many ways. Personally, I grew up on hip hop as all my friends in school listened to it. All those old tracks by LL Cool J, Snoop, Coolio, Dr Dre...man, they really bring back some fond memories. I like the old stuff (late 80s to late 90s) and current stuff the best (2012 - present). IMHO, hip hop had a period in the early 2000's I wasn't all that wild about. Something about the sound of a lot of tunes during that time period was really a bit "meh" to me. Trap is what really rebooted my interest in the hip hop scene, IMHO a very different feel than the so-so stuff coming out in the beginning of the 21st century.

It's a hip hop derivative that uses lots of TR808, but unlike the old school stuff the 808's are mostly sampled and pitched in ways the original machine can't do. Instead of sampled loops from funk, soul, rock, etc it's mostly rave/EDM electronic type sounds.

I'm at work so I can't listen to sound on that video. It intrigues me as to why that man has that blow up doll next to him though...

Wow first time I heard something by her, I was wondering if I was wrong in avoiding her stuff; clearly I wasn't, god that is truly terrible! I presume that's not actually 'trap' music though? Just sounds like regular bad MTV rap.
