How to make that sound...

Hey guys, this is my first post, glad to join the community,

theres this bass, linked below. Sounds like an fm bass but can't really get close with FM8, What baffles me is the attack, and the inharmonic ish meat in the lows.

Can't for the life of me figure out how to make such a broad spectrumed plucked sound. I've found i can get a similar attack/aggressive plucked texture by inverting the operators but even daisy chaining operators I can't get as broad a spectrum to the sound while retaining the pluck and not destroying it with too much fm/feedback/

For the extra harmonics in the low mids. inserting a 0.5 operator in the chain but I cant get it to sound right, just mangles the sound :/

Any thoughts would be appreciated, As regards the width, My take is that it is 250-320 sample delay acting on slightly panned operators

Any idea how to do this or where this sound is sourced from.. or is it even possible to do this with a single sound, as I have been trying, maybe in error

Thanks

For the attack (in the waveform you see some sharp spikes) a fast closing LP filter with some resonance could help.

What's on steroids about that? It is not a bass in my view, lacks bottom and has way too many high frequencies...

With FM you cna generate as broad or dense spectrum as you please. For dense partials, use modulators with ratio lower than main oscillator. For broad spectrum, use high amplitude of modulating operator (high modulation index). You can then alias almost indefinitelly ;)

And the bass is quite nice indeed.

Thanks man, I'm ok at fm synthesis, this sound has been a nightmare though.

This is the closest I've managed so far..
