How about some links/videos of folks playing effects like the instruments they are?

Look up Daniel Fisher at SweetWater.
Dude knows what he's doing and gets some fantastic sounds out of both synths and effects.

Check out some old dub reggae producers (I mean real producers, not the kind that give themselves that label here) - you'd be surprised at how much work goes into mixing for those guys if you can find some video. Definitely lots of live work with delay.
Sweet child in time...

This track was made with one synth (crumar spirit) and a Vestax Dig-110 delay unit ...
https://marineville.bandcamp.com/track/xtreme
It was recorded completely live (no overdubs).
This one features a lot of delay "playing" too ...
https://marineville.bandcamp.com/track/ ... c-jazzweed
Same delay unit used to remix a tune recorded to four track cassette.
It's me playing the delay on both tunes.

The "howling" noises heard in the first couple of minutes of this (badly sounding) video is produced with two plugins: Ferrox oscillating but turning up the feedback and then through Argotlunar to create more complex "harmonies" - all patched together in Usine. I think there's also some delay and verb as well.

in the 80s, messing with a delay was probably the most electronic sound modification achievable if you had no budget (apart from tape) via used guitar fx pedals. so us poor kids would have like hours of recorded crap like that.
the analog i got now is an ibanez, weird size big unit, big knobs, easy to hack open and add a switch to double the time/halve the "quality" such as it is. would top my gear list for realtime weirdness (i don't really have a gear list i just still have the ibanez).
here's a bit messing with a new-at-the-time digital rackmount.. some ephermal noname budget brand. didn't bend the pitch but changing the time coefficient silenced the buffer, producing 5+ minutes of glitch from two stoned teenage tucsonans, not a bad listen.

to play a delay you plug 'in' to an aux and 'out' return to a channel and twist 'aux send' rightwards?
