Easy going, light on the ear, dreadful cardigans - not my cup of tea. But I did learn how to play barre chords watching him on tv in the late 60's, so I can put him on my list of influences.
There seems to have been a lot of deaths in the music biz lately. It's sad. :(

He was the man who knocked The Beatles album Sgt. Pepper off the UK No.1 spot ... incredibly popular in the sixties and early seventies. I remember his Saturday night shows from my childhood.

Me old Mum was a huge fan of Val which meant I ended up hearing a lot...

At the time I thought he was the epitome of bad taste and middle class values the spawn of mediocrity but now I look back on those days and realise he was a charming good natured entertainer just doing his thing with humor a smile, terrible cardigans and a pipe.
One of a kind... RIP.
