recording MIDI clips from Maschine into Bitwig

Going nuts, please help...
I can record without trouble from Bitwig instruments into a MIDI clip. But when I try the exact same procedure from Maschine as VST, Bitwig does not record any MIDI.

- I have Maschine set to send MIDI on sound and group levels to host etc.
- I have Bitwig receiving signal from Maschine pads.
- I have track armed and OVR dub set. All signals confirmed by the sound meters when a Maschine pad is pressed...signal is flowing

But while recording, the transport runs, the note editor scrolls, but no notes are being recorded. Again, when I simply switch to a Bitwig instrument, the notes record just fine, so I know I have the Bitwig routing setup correctly.
What's wrong?

Try this...

Create two instrument tracks.
Route instrument track 1 MIDI to instrument track 2.
Have Machine VST on instrument track 2 receiving the MIDI from instrument track 1.
Let Machine controller be the input for instrument track 1,
which in turn routes it to instrument track 2. (Input to instrument track 2 == instrument track 1)
Record on instrument track 1, instead of 2.
When playing back recorded MIDI on instrument track 1, it will also be fed to Machine VST via instrument track 2.
