Soul, funk and groove isn't what metal and psytrance is about

Is not music to get down to, but rigidly gyrate to someway or the other, with one or several body parts.
exactly, put it better than i could

Well how about that.

While it doesn't mention psytrance (or even allude to it for that matter), I would say the frenetic energy and complexity of the genre is similar to metal, and therefore fans of both genre's are likely to be "systemisers".
This is certainly true for me and for my friends who are similarly musically inclined.

"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Nice one... I certainly can describe myself as a "systemiser". On the other hand, I have been more than once accused in being "emotionally blind" (especially by my wife, who is especially extravert and empathetic, and who loves mostly mellow pop music and can stand neither heavy metal nor psytrance, lol)

Hell, this thread has already pigeonholed me twice. :o

hmmm.. depends what you call soul. I think some psytrance absolutely does have soul. It's soul-ful to me - as in it feeds my soul.

Well if you see it this way everything may be soulful (at least to someone).

As I said before I love Psytrance, but seriously I just cannot see any soulfulness whatsoever in say modern Progressive Psytrance - on the contrary, most of it's sounds are as sterile and lifeless as it can get (still one can appreciate that production style of course).

If you have some soulful Psytrance to share, feel free to post some links.

I'm not sure what is the definitiuon of "soul", but these songs never fail to give me goosebumps whenever I listen to them

I don't care for most of the modern psy-prog. There are some great songs and even whole albums (Osher, 2011 or two albums by The Riddler), but most of the stuff by Zyce, Nerso, Flegma, Querox, or whoever is big at the current psy-prog scene sound samey and quite boring

So which albums in the discography of for example James Brown and Marvin Gaye would you say belong in psytrance ? :P
