Hello everyone,

Windows 10 will be released tomorrow and we expect that many of you intend to upgrade - especially because the upgrade will free from Windows 7 and Windows 8.

With the new operating system, Microsoft introduced many changes in regards to audio optimisations and lower latencies.
Also a new MIDI API is part of Windows 10.

We recommend that you do not upgrade to Windows 10 until final testing results are available as it might turn out that some Steinberg products need to be updated to ensure full compatibility.

As soon as we have more details on the progress, we will publish a knowledge base article about the subject.

Best regards,

I found only a problem with the soft e-licenser (permission problems) maybe a new installation of the e-licenser will solve this.

[edit]
I installed the latest version of the e-licenser and it's working now.

Your opinion in honor... but it's NOT a reason not to upgrade. It's a reason to wait and see what the companies tests will result in, and when updates are released, IF something needs fixing to be compatible. So please, save your pessimism for the respective threads, or just spare us at all with your opinion. If you choose for yourself not to update, that's perfectly fine. Why go around and make politics?

After having studied the new features and promises (companies like Microsoft always make) I decided that I really do not have to update my Win7 system.
For the average consumer it may be a good thing, for my DAW system I see no point.

Not to be too blunt but you had months of time to sort this out. It's not really a surprise Windows 10 is released today.

They clearly wrote on their website that they will have to wait until Windows 10 is final to be able to do tests because Microsoft always could introduce last minute changes though. But you can be sure that they already tested.

Don't find the announcement now, but they had on in the news, about 1 or 1 1/2 months ago.

Backed up my system and waiting...calmly waiting, reading forums, waiting, driver updates....waiting....

Worth a note if you on home version with auto updates (although auto updates can be disabled in pro versions).

...until I see ilok, elicenser, soundcard driver, gfx driver, daw all officially released...the upgrade is on pause.

Worth checking the register (and reddit I believe) before you "hit the button"!!! :phones:

Forums are THE place for opinions...I have a right to mine and you to yours. Who exactly is the "us all" you refer to, you can only speak for yourself unless you are the leader of a consensus or coalition. So spare me your whining and let's wait and see.

I am far from being alone in my reservations about the Win 10 upgrade. Incompatibility issues already have been documented in other threads( nVidia drivers, iLok manager) As far as I know Novation is the only company who has released an official compatibility list. Granted this is day one, but the fact remains devs have had months leading up to this release. If that is pessimism...so be it.

I have been using the insider preview form the beginning and must say that I would not put all the blame on devs. MS has kept changing things quite a bit and quite regularly breaking compatibility with stuff that was already tuned to work with Windows 10.

And honestly, even the latest release is pretty much half-baked as it is now. It will still need a lot of work. I would hold on upgrading just for that. And obviously, if you have a stable Windows 7 DAW I see no reason to upgrade at all.
