2015. I've got it to open but their mobile plugins/sdk's cause it to hang now. Can't install their Android Emulator either. Could be my system, but i'm going to try everything I can before I format my drivepljones wrote:Which VS version, out of interest?dakkra wrote:Well I'm still trying to get my IDE's (Specifically Visual Studio) to open.

The one thing keeping me from jumping to 10 is that automatic updates can't be disabled (well, not easily at least for the time being). Currently I use trueimage to take a snapshot of my system disk (keep data separate) then basically "don't do anything stupid" to avoid viruses and rarely update unless there is a specific reason to. This give me a stable system and a fallback to the trueimage copy if I did get a virus (though it's been years if not a decade since that's happened). I hate wasting time on an unstable system. There are a few ways to disable auto-updating floating around but I'm wondering if they'll be shutdown by MS eventually. The best so far just being to disable the update system service. Luckily (for me) the one thing I do update often, windows defender virus sig's, can be done w/o this service running.... Still, MS has made other services that can't be stopped so how long before they close that loophole?

Not sure how much of that is really true, and not marketing bogus though. I would assume much of it is the latter, as usual. Regardless of that it surely will bring some improvements, so with Windows 10 being a free upgrade for most users, it's kind of a no-brainer. Although i'm not sure myself yet if i will upgrade my desktop machine at all, because it's so much work, at least when you do a clean install. Read that the upgrade process should be pretty clean too though, so that might also be an option.aciddose wrote:Which DX12 features are motivating for you? The presented results are pretty incredible. That and I'm hoping MS release Forza on PC.

im holding out for as long as i possibly can on win7. why?
"Windows 10 will be the last numbered version of the OS and going forward it will simply become a ‘Windows’ subscription service. This upsets those who don’t like the idea of a subscription service, but the biggest concern is this: while Windows 10 will seamlessly upgrade to ‘Windows’ – this is a new beginning. Your OS would evolve into a new product for which you have to pay."

We've already proven that one false in the other big win10 thread on kvr. MS has already stated 10 years of support for windows 10 and no sub service to the o/s.chaosWyrM wrote:im holding out for as long as i possibly can on win7. why?

Just try reading the license you agree to when installing it. If they were to force you to pay or disable features of the OS with new forced updates they'd very quickly have a class-action on their hands that they would clearly lose.
All this speculation and conspiracy theory is really up there with...
Any moron can read the license agreement and point to the clauses which enable this.
Apparently Gordon Kelly is less than a humble moron and prefers to just make shit up instead.

Quote from Forbes article: "the software is free until it’s not" and I´m afraid it´s true.
Microsoft has been talking about Windows10, but it will evolve to "Windows" after a few years. Then what? Windows is not Windows10 and it can be anything, it´s naive to presume Win10 is really the last Win os. It´s just business.
