Hello KVers!

I'm recently exploring saturation techniques. I would be interested especially in a simple tape saturation plugin. Preferably free, but I would like to har your opinion on what is the best in market overall.

This was released just a few days ago: http://bedroomproducersblog.com/2015/08 ... -red-free/

Give it a whirl.

For payware options, check out TB Reelbus. It can glue together a mix and does some more complex tape simulation than just saturation. Fielding DSP's reviver also sounds awesome from the demo I've once tested. If I hadn't overblown my vst budget big time already :o I'd buy it.

Hi
I am enjoying TB ferox. It's free, and sounds great (be careful to set the gain staging properly).
It's tape-based.

Softube Saturation knob might be the simplest :

Klanghelm SDRR is quite deep and cheap, too :

FXpansion SingleMault gets some use, here too (not tape, but more "op-amp", transistor based):

If you like to get dirty, then AudioDamage might have some treat for you :

I also like Nick Row TubeDriver, for a tube emulation which can do subtle or more obvious.

Technically OT (since the OP emphasized tape saturation) but my swear by/goto saturation plug is Waveart's fairly new Tube Saturator II (http://wavearts.com/products/plugins/ts ... uct%20page)

At $99, it's a steal, it's much kinder to your CPU than verion I and it's got that hard to define gooey goodness that will glue a mix together. My favourite as of now.

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Don't forget their freebie, IVGI, too!

Ferric TDS
I just tried it. Another one VoS' plugins which has almost inaudible effect.

Interesting, dirty indeed 8) Still, very predictable.

Native Instruments Super Charger GT has some great saturation types within it. The compressor itself is rather "snappy" as well, if your into that kind of thing. My experience is that the saturation models find a lot of use over many different circumstances. Another perk is being able to blend the saturated signal with the dry via the wet/dry knob. Most of my other saturation plugins lack that feature.
Who is "I"? What is "I"? This has yet to be explained.

ABleton Saturator has this feature and I actually used it till now, but it sounds pretty harsh.

Ah, forgot to mention: basically I want to use saturator to remove / transform peaks. More like engineering tool than master effect.

Yep, I run Ableton as well and funny enough tried its saturator effect versus Super Charger GT and a couple of others like two days ago just because I was curious. In my opinion the saturation in the Super Charger is of an entirely different dimension and is much more useful for sound sculpting.
