Luckily enough i have the money to buy any Mac i want but i simply don't want it. I don't want to support practices like this. That point of no return was already over ten years ago as they bought Logic to support their platform.

I don't have any negative feeling towards Apple because they have every right to do so but i personally simply won't support them.

Like others said before it's a decision - thinking about it again, i have to agree that this is the only truth in the end.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

People could have bought when it actually WAS available. If that's the point anyway. Maybe the point is just to whine endlessly how unjust this world is, i don't know.
A bit like a limb I suppose. Some decided to amputate at the first sign of neuropathy. And others feel it was a company's indifference that 'amputated the limb'. It is natural to go through those stages of shock and grief for those that have lost it or decided to cut it off before it truly went toxic. It is equally natural to blame and hold the company that did it responsible. Alas, without compensation.

I feel all software is a loss in the end. And I made my decision to keep the Windows product for as long as it works. As I have two pieces of hardware that will not communicate with windows after 8, this setup is where I'm at for a while anyway.

Things that make me consider Apple at this point have as much to do with what Windows and Cakewalk are forcing down everyone's throat in coming versions more than the acquisition of Alchemy. But the implementation of it does present an added enticement to that.

Personally, I feel they (Apple/MS) are working together to make sure the market eventually saturates with both of them. And musicians may be the canaries in the coal mine of what the masses will be forced to do just to keep up appearances.

Apple doesn't typically just buy out products. They care more about extending strategic employment opportunities to the people behind them. The Emagic and Camel Audio teams were given an offer to come work for Apple, which they accepted, and they're the ones developing these products, not some random engineering team. Gerhard Lengeling, founder of Emagic, is still Apple's lead audio/music app architect.

Just for perspective, while I am still pissed at Apple I would much rather this than see Cakewalk release it as a Sonar-exclusive synth.

I've had plenty of time to accept this and am generally over it, life will go on and I'm as happy with my Alchemy 1.5 as I was 8 months ago. I have nothing against Mac owners and don't resent them for having access to something i want, if Logic was available for PC I would probably be using it already. I'm not a PC user because of some anti-Apple principle or stance, I'm a PC user because its cheaper, I have full control over which hardware components I use and I know my way around Windows fairly well.

I dislike Apple as a company, I dislike their business practises and I dislike the way they enforce too much control over their users. I also dislike Coca-Cola as a company but I still drink it. If Apple released some sort of cross-platform Alchemy that required the use of an iPad to control it then I would seriously consider getting an iPad. As it stands now, I do not want a Mac and have no plans to change my mind on that. Alchemy 2 is therefore not an option for me. At least some of you lot can enjoy it.

Reasonable and well said!

I'm not a Windows/Mac/Linux fanboi - I use all 3 and love/hate them equally. I appreciate that there is one company that builds hardware, writes the OS, and provides creative applications (now including Alchemy)...I find Logic Pro X to be stable, efficient, and inspiring (though it drives me crazy at times as well!)

In Alchemy 1 it was possible to import Oscillator/LFO files in the RAW format (see snip from Camel Audio Alchemy 1.50 manual below). I have a bunch of Galbanum Alchemy RAW files. I haven't found any documentation on Osc/LFO RAW files in the Apple docs, and they don't show up as loadable (folder is empty) when I navigate to them from Logic's Alchemy import browser. Anyone got intel on this?

24 Custom oscillators and LFOs
You can extend the functionality of Alchemy by creating and installing custom waveforms to load in Alchemy's oscillators and LFOs.
Note: This is an advanced technique that requires audio editing software with specialised features. In many cases it makes better sense to create new oscillator waveforms using Alchemy’s built-in additive editor, although these results require Alchemy’s additive engine for playback and cannot be loaded into a single oscillator for VA applications. Similarly, in many cases it makes better sense to create new LFO shapes using a looped MSEG. (Or, if you need a custom shape plus the ability to modulate the rate at which it cycles, you might use a Ramp Up LFO and apply a ModMap to reshape it as needed.)

24.1 Custom LFO waveforms
An LFO waveform is defined by a RAW file consisting of 2048 contiguous little-endian 32-bit floating point (single- precision) numbers in the range from –1 to 1, representing a single cycle of the waveform. The resulting file should be placed in the following sub-folder:

Alchemy/Libraries/WaveLfo

24.2 Custom Oscillator waveforms
An oscillator waveform is defined by a RAW file containing 20 cycles of the waveform, each lowpass filtered with a progressively lower cutoff frequency. This is to allow the oscillator to be used over a wide range of frequencies without significant aliasing. The cutoff starts at one half-octave below the Nyquist frequency and then goes down in half-octave decrements; in other words, the frequency is divided by the square root of 2 each time. For more experimental results it would be possible to place whatever waveform you like into each slot, allowing for the use of different waveforms at different pitches. The resulting file should be placed in the following sub-folder:

Alchemy/Libraries/WaveOsc

A possible workflow for constructing these oscillator waveform files begins with 2048 samples representing the full bandwidth version of the waveform. Apply the necessary filtering — an FIR filter is suitable for this task — and append the filtered result to the original waveform. Repeat this process 19 times while progressively increasing the amount of filtering according to the specifications above.

You can be sure they've taken SOMETHING useful out of Alchemy.

They ARE Apple after all.
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Akai VIP = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

Well, as an Apple customer for almost 30 years, I can only say that this is how those early years were for us Mac users: almost no software while Microsoft ran its course without mercy, and definitely without allowing us any access. Most other developers followed suit: no Mac compatible software to be found.
Finally, gotta hand it to Apple as Winstontaneous already stated: one company making hardware, OS and (refining) software leads to a stable, efficient and inspiring environment.
Funny thing is, they got so big because of a phone. Who'd have thought? And as for music, there even was a basic agreement with the Beatles that Apple would never venture into music, thus allowing them to use the same brand name as the Beatles' record company.
And look at them now

I spend a lot of time in front of computer screens, at home and work. Both environments have Macs and PCs; I hate them both equally.

I have Alchemy on my home PC but have no desire to put the new version on my Mac. Something better will come along eventually, it always does.

Oooooh I'm going to run right out and buy a Mac now...................not. :wheee:
Time to fire up the Hackintosh?

By the way- I still have Logic 5.5 on PC from the time it was a product of German company Emagic, available for Mac and PC. Apple did not create Logic. So typical of them.

Hell hath no fury like a PC user scorned

"So typical of men". "They ARE women after all" "I hope he burns in HELL". "'I've got a long memory and I'm NEVER forgetting this".

Bill Gates and Paul Allen didnt program Dos, but they made billions off of it. Such is the software business.

This thread is similar to Super Nintendo vs SEGA Mega Drive.

I bet that if we filtered out all the posts related to Apple hate/Mac vs PC posts, this thread would be 7-8 pages long.
