Hi,

Just upgrade Strobe2 and found its Transmod system is pretty versatile. Another synth that I owned which also has versatile mod features is Blue2. Source and destination.... You name it, it almost got it.

Do you have any synth that you love which have flexible/versatile modulation features? Let's discuss.

XILS 4

Just to name a few

Bazille.

You can modulate almost anything with almost anything due it's semi-modular patching.

Not quite everything though...it's not 100% modular.

There are certain synths I have that I WISH had more modulation options built-in. I'm always happy to have more than 2 LFOs, which seems the standard. Can always do stuff with controllers and DAW-side modulators though -I use Peak Controller in FLSTudio quite a lot when I run out of built-in LFOs.

A. The higher the fewer.

Melda's MPower has - by far - the most extensive modulation options. Period.

It's not any "easy" synth, though. Creating a patch means "work".

Depends on the Synthesis methods actually

To complete the list of the synths already mentioned :

Fm8 is pretty awsome when it comes to FM (you can create algorythms that dont exist in Yam HW)

Nave and Massive both have unique modulation systems.

Xils 4 is semi modular but still you can establish hundreds of simulatenous connections via the pin matrixes for a single patch. At audio rate

Similar semi modular systems can be found in Aalto, or Kaivo. Or U-he Ace.

Oxium has incredible unique modulations for a VA synth (masks sequencers), and you can modulate nearly everything ( EV segments, the 2 filters, the mixer for example etc)

Dune can modulate Ev segments and plethora of other parameters also. Same with Diversion

Generally speaking, synths with sophisticated modulation systems are not *better* than simple specialised ones that *sound right* ( like NI Monark), they just offer something else.

mpowersynth is amazing, also aalto, serum were not mentioned..

reaktor 6, bazille , ace , you can modulate lot of things at audiorate ( if bazille fx could be "modular" that would be awesome)

reaktor 6 is fully modular probably the deepest one

I recalled I've demoed Bazille months ago and while it got lots of modulation capabilities but it just pretty hard for me to program. See if it will have discount next month and I may give it another try.

Meldas MPowersynth has bar none the most complex routing matrix/options I have ever seen.

XILS 3 (LE) has another one where mostly everything can be routed from and to anything else.

Massive and Largo both have very nice modulation options. Massive being very easy to use (wonder why almost none of the other synths ever copied what it is doing...), and Largo featuring smart (in terms of knowing, what functions you usually need) modulation options in the section of every part of the synthesizer.

I'm not sure u-he do discounts, but maybe give the demo another whirl when you have some time on your hands. There are some decent tutorials and runthroughs of its various features around the web to help you familiarise yourself with the concept if you're not used to the wire-patching idea - I know I've come across synths that apply that and been intimidated by all the connections and been discouraged by them. It took fiddling around with synthedit and getting to play with a real modular system to get used to building a patch that way (a friend's...I can't keep hold of enough money for long enough to buy one, though I'd love to!). Like everything, once you have the basics clear and easy to access in your head, the rest just opens up for you - like suddenly stumbling out of a dense forest into an open field. :)
The rewards are many if you have the time and patience to get past that first block.

Maybe it's one of those synths that will always leave you cold and just not fun to use - I have my own pet hates, and I can't even always explain what it is about them that I don't like (e.g. pretty much all wavetable synths I've used...like the idea but never seem to like using them or the sound or...something?). But it might be worth persevering with it. I've gone back to some synths that I've been intimidated by that are just a screen full of connections and managed to deal with them better than before since using bazille. I was looking again at xils3/4 but Reaktor 6 coming out put paid to that for a while...plenty of modular madness to be had there!

For modulation...Zebra. When you really get down to it, it's got crazy ridiculous modulation possibilities.

It is a different paradigm... and it takes some getting used to. It has more low level modules that you then wire together into complex modulators. Anyone who has used modular analog will be familiar with Bazille.

When I first started using Bazille, I wondered what a lag generator, rectifier or multiple were for. Now I wish I had those in all my other synths. Bazille is excellent for complex organic modulations.
