Take a look at Hideaway Studio's Pentodian Resonator Choir - great on its own, but also fantastic layered up with other stuff...

DUNE 3 has some nice VOX Presets, too and can easily produce a Variety of VOX/Choir Sounds.

it depends how real you want them to sound.
real - sampled
synthetic - synthesized OR sampled.
i find real sounding isnt always best, but simply
different sounding than synthesized.
vocoders dont sound real at all but i still
love how they sound for example.
