Apple's "retina" screens are:
- High resolution
- High dpi
- Integrated in a device
So which of those are needed to get the marketing label "retina"? All three? Then you'll get a little Retina window built into the trash can!

While i could get high-PPI mode on a third party 4K display with a Mac Pro and the most recent OS X, and while some people say they look good when they work, the third party displays are well known to be fiddly, unreliable, and inconsistent (due to being two panels merged together and behaving weirdly with the systems they're plugged into). i've done lots of reading. i almost pulled the trigger on this idea, but the more i read, the more crappy it sounded (displays that don't turn back on after the Mac goes to sleep, half of the display being the wrong color cast or not displaying properly, etc).

i want something for a Mac Pro that was BUILT to work with a Mac Pro by the same company that makes Macs.

Given the current best Apple option for you being the 2K 27" thunderbolt display at $1000 bucks would you want this retina display for $1500-$2000?

I think the only thing I'm really hot to see come out is Steven Slate Drums 5.

Zebra 3 too, of course. But my music has taken a somewhat more organic turn in the last couple of years, so I'm not as focused on synths as I used to be.
