This tutorial will show you how to use Cerebrum's audio input to chop vinyl in Ableton Live.

First you will need to route your turntable (or any other audio source, vocals might be fun) into an empty audio track in Ableton Live. Be sure to arm the track by selecting the red button at the bottom.

Load Cerebrum into a midi track, and route the audio channel's output into Cerebrum. This is done by selecting the 'Audio To' dropdown and choosing 'Cerebrum' as the input.

Cerebrum has a preset set up just for this, it's called 'Auxillery Turntable', which we will be using for this tutorial.

Now make sure that your external audio source is playing into the armed track. If it is, you will see some level meter activity but won't hear anything yet.

Hit play in Ableton Live.

Since Cerebrum is set up to play in sync with the host, it will automatically start up, and you will hear the audio playing from Cerebrum's Aux module in sync with the beat.

When you open Cerebrum, look at the Aux module. The first knob in the row labeled 'dry' controls the volume of the incoming audio.

Open the sequencer and check out what's happening. The steps in the sequence act as a gate for the incoming audio.

Now go back into the edit panel. The Decay knob labeled 'Dec' to the right under 'Amp' controls the length of the steps in the gated sequence.

Now have some fun scratching your records with a perfectly synced gated rhythm!

A few more tips:
The Aux module has a built in oscillator. To hear it, turn up the 'level' control under 'tone'. It sounds like a metalic hihat or something. Now what's cool about this is you can run the incoming audio into it for FM sounds using the 'feed' knob. If you only want to hear the modulated audio, turn down the 'dry'.

You'll notice that the Bass module isn't playing on this preset. That's because it's set to Midi. Try playing some keys in the lower octave on your midi keyboard. Have fun!
