I've read about the monitor height issues, i have a 24" monitor with a desk mount so wondering if i could fix that to front of the monitor shelf as i have no base for it. I'd like to add a second monitor as well, another reason i need a desk.

Anyway can't see anything else in that sort of price range with the same amount of desk space which is what i need right now but if there's anything else i'm all ears, i'm in the UK. Budget £1-200. Cheers!

ETA: Had a quick look and i could get a stand for the monitor but i thought with the mount i could overcome the height and distance issues, just depends how solid the top shelf is.

I wanted a wide standing desk with stands for my monitors, enough room for dual LCDs, my computer keyboard/mouse as well as a MIDI keyboard and extra space for other equipment and stuff. I couldn't find anything that suited, even at regular desk height, for a reasonable price.

So I built myself a very basic one from 1x6 boards, MDF and a couple of adjustable sawhorses, and attached the keyboard/drawer tray from under my old desk. It cost about $70 total (most of which was the sawhorses; if I knew for sure I would never want to change the height that could have been cheaper) and a couple of hours of work. It's not pretty but I've been happy with it.

The Creation Station seems woefully small to me but I guess it depends on your needs.

Thanks. I haven't got time to build a new one, i thought about it, buying the home studio guys plans but i just want to transition everything as painlessly and quickly as i can. i also want something on wheels so i could access the rear and i need racks...

Cheers!

I use a basic 6 foot folding table, with a fitted black tablecloth. Cheap, and is actually the best 'desk' I've had. Total cost was $117. I didn't do it for the cheapness - more for what I needed/wanted. The fitted tablecloth is nice because I can store stuff under the desk that I don't need out all the time, and the cloth goes down to the floor, so everything is out of site. Works for me.

Thanks. This is going in my living room so i want something that will look ok. It would fit into the space i have nicely and i need something to mount a monitor to so i can set it at eye level.

It's currently only £120 which seems really good. I know there are better desks and you can build your own (health issues prevent that but i could probably do a basic thing) but i'd like to just get the current one out and the replacement in.

Something might turn up in the BF sales so i decided to wait a bit longer anyway.

Check the pics in my Airgigs link below. That's a desk I recently bought for £118 and assembled myself - flatpack. It's incredibly sturdy and looks more expensive than it is when assembled. Here's the link.

Links not working mate. I really want something with racks and a bottom shelf, and wheels so i can move it for access.

I'd be putting monitors on it maybe and a mixcube with acoustic foam although i have my CMS50s on stands but i'd like to add another pair, something like this:

But with the omnitor mounted at the front hopefully sat flush with the shelf so it doesn't overlap the racks. :phones:

That's a useful bit of information to me actually as I've been having a lot of trouble with the Airgigs site lately.

Sounds like you want something like the Quiklock Z desks. Thomann used to do a nice cheap version but it seems they've stopped now.

Are you talking about the Studio RTA Creation Station? I have their Producer Station. It's not awful but there're design & quality control issues. Most annoying was:

• laminate strip on front of desktop was put on upside-down (sharp edge up - manufacturing error)

• tabletop racks use too much desk space and put computer screens at bad height/distance (I removed mine)

• metal locking dowels suck. They don't lock at all. They are supposed to hold the top surface onto the rack space. If you remove the CD racks on left & right sides, the top piece will fall off and break the vertical pieces when moving the desk down stairs or whatever.

It was okay for the current price but I paid more when mine was bought. This is the only version of their desks I know anything about so if this isn't helpful, sorry.

I've got the Z500 if that's what you mean, wasn't great quality but i adapted it a bit. :)

Just not enough surface area, everything's a bit cramped. The rta is about 40cm longer and 20cm deeper and i need that extra space.

Next nearest thing i've come across is the Sefour X60 for £199 but more of a DJ/Producer desk...

Oh and the Innox WSA-01 which looks ok design wise: https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/studio-works ... tudio-desk

Adjustable height as well!

Reviews on the Sefour on MF are really bad so i think i'll probably pass on that.

Yep. A lot of good reviews on Thomann etc, maybe they've sorted their QC issues. But your comments are what make me reluctant to pay more for something sight unseen. I'd allow for some design issues, the Z50 i bought from Thomann though was pretty bad, things didn't line up etc and the keyboard shelf wobbled so i ended up taking it out!

One thing i'd miss with the CT is a keyboard shelf, i just want to put gear on the main desk space, K&M out the way when i don't need it. The Innox looks ver nice anyway, like the seperate monitor shelfs, could fit my CMS50s on them and HS80s on the stands and have two monitors mounted to the shelf.

I didn't even install the keyboard drawer. It's just for typing keyboards, not midi controllers. Plus, I've never seen a desk with keyboard tray that made any sense to me:

• Drawer out, I have to sit much further from the screen I'm looking at when I type.

• Drawer in, my legs are cramped by the suspended assembly (that seems designed to accommodate a whole stack of 1980s style IBM clicky keyboards).

While I had the top rack unit and monitor shelf attached, the side with a sliding tray was an interesting idea and just about accommodated my Virus TI, but it slid badly due to being crimped by the assembly process. Worse: the cables would either be bunched up while the drawer was in, or would be yanked and unplugged by pulling the drawer out. Someone didn't think too hard about that space (the cable access holes were poorly positioned too). That side should've been rack space too, but it lacks a set of rails as found on the opposite side.

Overall, I barely use the desk as intended. Half of it goes to waste. I don't think anything in this price range is made well and I certainly can't see much practicality in these designs. The designers of this stuff seem to go by what they think use scenarios might be like, rather than actually being practicing studio people. I'd love to try out a pro studio desk with sloped, low-rise integrated racks (the front panels of racked gear end up being at desk/hand height rather than vertical as when you have typical standing racks), with integrated spaces accommodating full size 88-key MIDI controller keyboards that can be hidden by a sliding desktop surface, but ... money... :-p

Edit: My studio monitors are on stands. These are also crappy. Made by Raxxess, I think, these "wooden" towers don't stay assembled because the top-heavy aspect means they tilt and the base separates from the beam. Sure, the pegs are glued. Doesn't matter. The central shaft is supposed to be filled with sand. Yeah right. Firstly, no sand bags are included. Gotta get that yourself. And where and how do you get a sand solution that means it won't leak all over your floor when the base separates from the post? Bagged sand might work, but I've no idea where to get small bags of sand that won't tear while being handled (you think moving studio furniture is a pain in the ass already, try moving large posts filled with sand). I suppose if I had the tools and the skills, it's a starting point for modification (as in: bolt the thing together and forget about the useless wooden pegs).

Frankly, I don't see much professionalism in any of this stuff. I wish I was rich. But then I wonder if the expensive stuff is free of this kind of cheap-ass manufacturing...
