Things I particularly like:
- Most of the controls are familiar and consistent … that is one of the things I really appreciate about MeldaProduction plugins.
- The tabbed panels are an awesome approach to making manipulation of the harmonics simple and easy to comprehend.
- The depth of modulation and automation parameters is a consistent source of amazement to me in all of your plugins … and this one continues the trend!
Things I would wish for, if I could wish for the moon … some of these are maybe a bit much to ask:
- An Input level knob.
- On the Synthesis tab, the ability to add harmonics below the fundamental. I know this sounds technically impossible, however there are well known plugins out there that do some approximation of that - of course without coming straight out and telling you that’s what they are doing.
- The ability to set the relative “width” of frequencies for the altered harmonics as a percentage off of the true frequency (not a pitch shift, just widening the band of the actual harmonic). This probably affects the crossover between bands, so not sure how practical it would be.
- During playback, real-time display of frequency assignment in the tabbed panels. Maybe like the frequency callouts that appear in the analyzer panel of MAnalyzer, or just a label in the activated columns.
- The Resolution knob seems to help smooth the transition between changes in the detected fundamental. It took some tinker time to realize it did that - and I am still not sure if that is the intended purpose of the knob. Either way, having a means to smooth the transitions between “stable” states is an important consideration in order to maintain the musicality of the effect.
- It took a moment for me to realize that the blue bars in the tabbed panels represented octaves. It might be a nice touch to label them (e.g. maybe as o0, o1, o2, etc), but maybe that would be too much hand-holding
Now for an interesting behavior - I thought it was interesting anyway There are solutions for this (if one considers the behavior undesirable), so I am raising it here just as information for anyone else who might also be interested …
A very short vocal clip is attached (apologies for the mp3, but it was the only way to make the file small enough for upload). My plugin chain is MCharacter with instances of MAnalyzer before and after.
In MCharacter, each of the settings below exposes the same behavior in each of the tabbed panels. When you play the audio clip, you should hear an octave change after the “v” in “forever”. It took some tinkering to figure out how to suppress it (see below).

In some cases this could be an interesting artistic effect, however - speaking for my own intended uses - it is not desirable.
In most situations I have been able to suppress the behavior by cranking up the Buffer Size and Resolution. However, it seems when using the Notes tab, I also have to increase Stabilization more than is useful … the problem is that other parts of the track move a lot faster, so the plugin ends up being “under stabilized” for some parts, and “over stabilized” for other parts. The obvious solutions is: since pretty much every single parameter in the plugin is exposed to automation (more kudos to MeldaProduction!), just alter the Stabilization value at the appropriate times.
I want to thank MeldaProduction for offering such innovative and flexible plugins. This is another excellent example of why I keep coming back!
