To be more on the safe side we speak about 10 years. I don't trust this 20+ years. I had SSDs which are broken after 2 and 4 years...Mushy Mushy wrote:What is the lifespan of an SSD? Is it short enough to be a concern?
SSD brand recommendations.

Looks like your browser trounciated the URL before you copied it... be warned I'm working on a best guess here, without a full product listing. (give me the product LN code if it helps from our site)Mushy Mushy wrote:So what do we think of the Intel 750 series?

I do hope Kaine chimes in because I will be ordering it from them.
Edit: not sure why that hyperlink has broken
As a rule for SSD's Intel is second to Samsung for me in SATA and M.2 connections.
However for PCIe they would be my choice if you go for a slot add in card edition. I don't think you're looking at those are you (can't tell from broken link!) and it looks like a newer U.2 connection, if so does your board support this?
More on U.2. connections : http://www.overclock3d.net/articles/sto ... nnection/1
(AFAIK these U.2. connections don't copy random data to your drives,YMMV if you have iTunes installed)

Thanks all.
I'm not sure on the connections required. This is the laptop in question.

I know it currently has a Fujitsu MHY2200BH serial ATA HDD.

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/400gb-i ... -230k-iops
Is a direct replacement for a Fujitsu MHY2200BH serial ATA HDD.
Much obliged

I thought it was SATA that could be optionally incorporated into a PCIe slot.
Reading back now I'm not sure how or why I got that feeling.
Thanks for the link, looking through those now. Cheaper too, so we're already off to a good start.
Re budget: I'd rather not skimp on something like this; how much is my data worth to me. However, £300 is my absolute maximum really.

These are the two I've shortlisted based on Kaine's support for Samsung and Intel:
https://www.scan.co.uk/products/480gb-i ... s-48k-37k-
https://www.scan.co.uk/products/512gb-s ... k-90k-iops
or as an absolute strech:
https://www.scan.co.uk/products/1tb-sam ... k-90k-iops
1TB is complete overkill though. I still have 20GB left on my 8 year-old 250GB drive.

I bought a samsung 840 and it's been great in my macbook pro.
I bought a crucial twice before that and they were both troublesome.

Ahh, ok. The U.2/M.2 options are far too new for a laptop of that generation (both standards came out last year), so your Intel 750's are out I'm afraid. Standard Sata 3 controller, so either the Intel 730 or Samsung 850's are where you want to be looking.

Thanks Kaine. The 730 Intel is £100 more expensive than the bigger Samsung and the equivalent 535 Intel.Kaine wrote:Ahh, ok. Why does the extra £ bring to the party?
