Yeah - let's please NOT make a remix challenge out of this...

At least not yet.

EDIT:
I do like the interest in the current challenge this time around. Can we exceed 15 participants this time around? Would be a change of pace. :tu:

Nice track, I'm in (For the first time). I tried 2 challenges before but could not get it even decent.
I just read what compyfox wrote and apparently that little clicksound I added to the kick has to go....(I don't mind if that's the case)
What about occasional muting unmuting tracks within the current songstructure?
Thanks for this challenge.
I will check the coming months if I have a song that can be usable without the need of hours of editing.

^ on the kick, try transient shaper before a hard clipper.... that'll add a sort of click

IceBreaker! woot!

edit: here's the 24bit: https://app.box.com/s/84ekd1putupuedja25hfme5k27lk5mue

tough mix, can't really get it right... :? (phase distortion from EQ and filters helped align the tracks' phases quite a bit in this one)
RMS is quite high but peak is below -1 db like the rules point out.

Heavy duty tape slam on the master bus to pull the sound together in fashion.

Yeah, this one is tricky, comparing a mixed + mastered guide track to just a mixed track is  But listening to previous MC winners - the loudest doesn't always win, luckily we have some great song providers that can look past the loudness wars!

Respect for breaking the ice, 3ee!

I might push the RMS up a notch(1dB/2dB) on this one too, it needs some master channel crunch. Just need to re-check everything tomorrow. Good luck to all!

Please keep the RMS values reasonable.

The rules are flexible enough now to use processing on the summing bus (within reason, and if the production really needs it - please try to mix as well as possible without the summing bus first!), while it's still possible to have an eye on a suitable worklevel.

I am against the loudness wars 98% of the time and I like to respect guidelines (like I did with past MC contests for example) + I'm usually very conservative when it comes to loudness... but in this edition, I felt like I had to smash it to some degree to get closer to a sound I wanted, it's something else... My mix didn't sound good at all to me if not pushed harder (most of the action is done by a TB ReelBus on the master bus) it's like an old school multi-band processor but with saturation/harmonics as a side-effect :)

Hi there, I'll refrain from listening until the deadline, but first thanks for participating, I hope you enjoyed the process 8)

Don't worry, loudness is not among my criteria for judging; in case you are interested (or anyone else is), I took the liberty of doing a mix myself without any "mastering" trickery with the same tracks you had at hand so that the comparison may be more balanced?

Cheers!

Wow I just checked the thread :) 10 days left it will be a challenge :)

Since this one seems more free, maybe I'll say an heresy, but for me this sound kinda like psy-trance :D so I will try go this way if it is ok, downloading the stems now !

Nah, an unmastered track isn't necessary, a good mix will sound good when mastered, and a bad mix will still sound bad when mastered. I do agree with 3ee on this one though, a bit of master bus processing is needed, not to pre-master but to use as an effect. I'm up 0.8dB RMS from where I usually mix at, I wouldn't call that drastic. But will only be done by the weekend.

Looking forward to listening to everybody's mixes!

Ok, here comes my mix.

WAV: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/717 ... otonic.wav

I put a lot of satturation, autpanning, phaser, filter automation and even some glitch FX in this mix.
I also muted some tracks for short parts, to bring more tension to the arrangement. I hope this will not count as a re-mix 8)

Here we go, since we have some freedom, I went for a EBM/Darkwave mix :borg: , slightly inspired by VNV Nation's 'Praise the Fallen' album.

Used saturation, gates, delay, bitcrusher, a flanger, a dash of Alterboy and the usual bunch of automation to fit it all together.

Good luck to all!
