I say that U-he Diva has the best "character" of any software synth.

+1

A lot of synths have character, but Diva stands out to me too.

I know that character is highly subjective - but what I am after is synths that doesn't sound like (or is trying to sound like) everything already on the market :) Doesn't have to be software.

The first synth that comes to my mind is the old synth plugin OLGA - that's a synth with some serious character :tu:

Funny, as soon as I saw the topic I thought, "Olga."

Let's see... Absynth comes to mind.

FMDrive. Probably my all time favourite VST. The distortion for model 1 and 2 Megadrives is such a great touch!
A heaping dose of outrageously goofy synth tracks, scores and chiptunes.

That's Aly James right? I read something that they might be ported to Mac - then I'll be all over it :hyper:

Agree with lots of the synths already named...

One I didn't see is Xhun Audio's LittleOne. I really like it for vintage-type sounds. :tu:
A well-behaved signature.

They are porting it away from the limited SynthEdit platform at the moment :tu:

No synth has character like this one

I know! *grin* Can't wait. 64-bit too! If the price is good it'll be a must-buy for me.

I like U-He ACE when you tweak the crosstalk and capacitor bleed, changes it completely! GForce Oddity is also great, seems to take on a life of it's own sometimes. XILS Labs VCS3 of course for random mayhem and their PolyKB I also see as something with special character.

But for real character iOS has some treats like Animoog as already mentioned and Soundscaper http://www.musicappblog.com/soundscaper-review/ which is really great. Then there is crazy stuff like Virtual ANS, a model of the optical ANS synth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR6lwvBuZnM
