For me i'd be bummed since i'd lose my loyal following of 25 people that I have worked so hard to build up in the last 5 years. I guess others won't have it so tough. I still like it though so I hope it survives...

How exactly do they finance their service anyway? Avertising? It's all a bit foggy to me how services like that finance themselves. I see they have a "Pro" plan, but it doesn't seem to be very expensive.

I guess they get funded entirely by people signing up for non-basic accounts. I think it's a 2-hour limit, it might be 1 hour, unless you get a licence.

Are you sure you aren't talking about the lawsuit Sony was threatening them with Sampleconstruct ?

my advice to soundcloud: dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
what i found more interesting was the linked article at the bottom of that http://www.factmag.com/2015/08/14/what- ... oundcloud/.
seems to me soundclouds biggest problem has been one of identity. they wanted to become a listening destination...but they arent one. the main use of soundcloud was for small artists to have a platform to share their work, not as a place to go to listen to music. sure...you could do that...and they even made that easy...but the main function was to make sharing easy...not listening.
there really shouldnt even be music from sony artists (or other major labels) on soundcloud in the first place. soundclouds decision to scramble and try to find ways to placate large labels and to attract listeners instead of enhancing tools for small artists will be their downfall.

I see, then I was wrong it seems, but still I'm confident SC will survive somehow, this is also wishful thinking as I have about 2.500+ tracks and demos up there and rely on it a lotshroom81 wrote:Well there is news stories from today about this so some development has taken place.Sampleconstruct wrote:But that's old news, not new news, and since that rumor many months ago, nothing happened.

Yeah, that sounds about right to me, too. Seems like a perfect time for someone else to come along and fill the void that was originally created/abandoned by SC. Too many of these types of companies find huge success using the K.I.S.S approach, but then try to grow too big too fast and be all things to all people, and that's when things go wrong.chaosWyrM wrote: seems to me soundclouds biggest problem has been one of identity. they wanted to become a listening destination...but they arent one. the main use of soundcloud was for small artists to have a platform to share their work, not as a place to go to listen to music. sure...you could do that...and they even made that easy...but the main function was to make sharing easy...not listening.

I do remember some older news about them having financial troubles too. About half or a year ago i think.Sampleconstruct wrote:I see, then I was wrong it seems, but still I'm confident SC will survive somehow, this is also wishful thinking as I have about 2.500+ tracks and demos up there and rely on it a lotshroom81 wrote:Well there is news stories from today about this so some development has taken place.Sampleconstruct wrote:But that's old news, not new news, and since that rumor many months ago, nothing happened.

Maybe they should merge with Amazon - they seem to be able to lose money every year without anyone complaining
I'm not surprised - but what really keeps on surprising me is why all these services who started out for free suddenly expect users to start throwing money at them. One thing I've learned is that loyalty to brands are much lower on the internet than it is in real life.
Just my personal observation.

It's a social-media company. The aim of the game is to burn through as much VC cash as possible before getting bought out and strangled slowly by Yahoo. Seems to be going entirely according to plan. Oh wait, Yahoo has run out of cash too. Oops.

SoundCloud is a joke...their stats are rigged...my total listens have fluctuated by hundreds plus and minus. I have received likes and followers when a song has NO listens. I routinely receive mail from persons offering to get me hundreds of followers for a fee. I used to post at AcidPlanet but stopped because I don't use their products or loops. So I post at SoundCloud because I am unaware of an alternative.

Geesh...the only one alternative I am aware of is Spotify but...
Are there alternatives?
