I'm aware of: Crystal, MT PowerDrumkit2, Dune CM, MauSynth, Brainstomer, and Dexed.
Any others out there that I'm not aware of?

Why don't you try using 7-Zip or UniExtract http://legroom.net/software/uniextract to open .exe installers and just extract .dll's and supporting files?

I've tried 7 zip and it seems when I do find an .exe file that it works on, alot of times the .dll crashes reaper upon scanning/loading

Are there really only that few? I'm not a synth collector, so I don't really know.

Here's one I believe. - https://obxd.wordpress.com/

and here are some potential candidates. Typed in "dll". as the keyword, "64 bit" as the OS, and "synth/analogue and subtractive" as the category. You may have already gone down this road though. Hope it helps. - http://www.kvraudio.com/q.php?search=1& ... n64&tg[]=1

Most synths mentioned here seem to be free and most comercial ones i used so far seem to include an Installer which IMO is no real problem.
While having done Beta testing for certain plugins i usually kept a copy of the DLL file of older versions so i could switch easily between different versions without having to use the installer.

Anyway as most commercial synths also install files to different locations than the Vstplugins folder (e.g. the presets) installing those manually could lead to certain problems.

Just wondering, but why exactly are you looking for only .dll's? Many plugins only install dll's too, nothing in the registry, nothing in the program files folders. And those which do often write serial information in the registry for example, or write to system folders, because they need stuff not present on the system, so it's quite necessary for some plugins to have installers.

I've been looking for the same thing, but not really for instruments, just effects. The reason is that I have a portable install Reaper directory that can be easily copied to a flash drive. For that, you really want plugins that are portable and completely self contained in their dll.

Alright. Well, i only can think of free VSTi's which come as DLL only too. I don't think i have seen a commercial one yet which comes as DLL only. U-he's stuff only installs in the plugins folder though i think, and probably also in the default VST3 folder.

Doesnt have to be the DLL. Theoretically there can be hundrets of files and folders outside the DLL; as long as the plugin is programmed to expect everything in the directory in which the DLL itself is located (relative paths) its no problem at all. Thus its more accurate to say that what you want is plugins that are self contained within their folder.

One such example would be HelixBeta. (And IIRC HelixFull as well.) All files and folders are in one parent dir, no registry or system folders needed. Another would be ERA2. Again, all files and folders are in one parent dir, including the config file that stores various settings and paths. No registry, no system folders. A third one would be ADM CM. All files and folders including configs are in one parent dir, no registry or system folders needed. The list goes on, WarmVerb for example falls into that category too.
