I know there are very specialized plugins like EQs, Compressors, Reverbs, etc. But seriously, it's a kick drum. The price on this thing would have to be so ridiculously low to even consider getting it. I mean who in their right mind (just pulling a price out of thin air) would pay $99 just to make a kick drum? Even $49.

What am I missing here? What makes this so special? Or is this going to be a very low priced item (would have to be under $30 for me) that makes it a no brainer to get?

Because I am just not seeing it.

Is it just me? If it is, what am I missing?
@wagtunes

I don't understand your negative comments.

About "usefulness".
If D16 and its partners have chosen to spent some time (and money) designing this synth, there must be some reason. They probably know their customer better than you. And if it doesn't work or if nobody buys it. Don't worry it will disappear in no time. It seems that you are obviously not the target.
You need to have spent at least a few hours enjoying some music in a club on a big system to understand how much a kick is important in a lot of electronic music. If, like a lot of people, you just listen to music on the sound system of your laptop, or enjoying a style of music where the kick drum is used as a cosmetic background, that's of course something that you can not understand. And talking about options. What's the point to buy another synth when you already have one ? Maybe just to find another way to have fun making music...

About the price.
What's the point of your "questions" (in an announcement thread above all) ? In music, the price has never been related to the "usefulness" or the quality of a product. Logic and its arsenal can be bought for a couple of hundreds and you need 2 or 3 times this same amount just to buy some violin library (which are also totally useless for some people).

No offense, but I find this kind of post, in an announcement thread, totally inelegant to say the least...

When I received the announcement mail, this morning, I thought "A kick plugin ? I don't need another one, I already have almost all of them plus a couple of hardware kick drum only, that cost much more than a plugin". (Not mentioning that I know how to program a synth.)
After watching the video, I will probably buy it as soon as it is released. Just to have another flavour

Oooo cynic porn....Well by that logic you can recreate any piece of historical music tracks in any daw - yet for some reason people have hard time doing this. Go figure :)
I don't hold to that logic

This plug is so opposite to anything that I thought I'd want, but that video gave me the horn :o It will probably be priced too high for the things I might think to do with it, but I haven't felt such g.a.s in a while

GUI looks amazing, apart from the 'PunchBOX' logo which screams 'freeware'.

And I also got mixed feelings about the name, too close to Rob Papen's stuff... :?

First idea after the first second and thinking about the name: "Guitar stomp boxes... ok, not for me... oh... wait... it's a kick synth."

Wonder how it will sound, and how the workflow is.

And then KickBOX? :hihi: :clown:

Seriously, I'm not the target for this kind of products, but I think it can be useful.
Making drum sounds with synths and effects (stompboxes) can be a lot of fun, but it's time consuming; tools like this make the the process more straighforward and it can be done more in the contest of the song.
The only thing I'm unsure is why just bass drums...

These guys always release something unique and surprising. This looks to be the ultimate kick drum synth. Wow!

I would expect a snare module next, followed closely by a hi-hat/cymbal rack module.

nah... I'm of the target audience for this thing... a dedicated kick module, sure, I often have kicks separate from the rest, everything else however goes directly in the drum machine, no matter what. most will feel the same.

The name makes me squirm in my seat.

Yeah... didn't see that coming...
Now I really can't wait for the V2-upgrades of their classic boxes. I hope they integrate something like an advanced edit layer into them, that goes beyond the classic sounds. They already show with PB, that they seem to be capable of that

Keep in mind that there are whole genres of sound-making that basically consist of nothing else than a (rhythmically extremely simple) bass-drum line plus the odd zap and blip here and there... so for these people kick-drum plugins are akin to what instruments are for a musician - just can't have enough of them...
"Preamps have literally one job: when you turn up the gain, it gets louder." Jamcat, talking about presmp-emulation plugins.

Looks great...that's for sure. Bet it sounds awesome too.
Saying that, to me that whole rack interface business does feel like borderline overkill - unless the rack and its FX modules could be used separately as FX plugin...
A bit of added value there beyond having the worlds' most sophisticated kick machine.
It's about time someone took this concept one step further by designing a kick + bassline plugin with some cool functionality in terms of gluing them together internally, ie band specific sidechaining, dynamics processing , distortion/saturation, transient shaping, step sequencing with glides/accents and limiting over the top.
Add separate outputs for further processing within your DAW and you've got yourself a unique approach that hasn't been done before (as far as I'm aware...)

Cheers,
