Just curious : Is Synthmaster gonna be NKS ready one day ?

I purchased an NI Kontrol 25 keyboard just for this very purpose

I put together the first draft of one (based on my original Kore template), but I have to make compromises because annoyingly too many Synthmaster controls have 9 or 10 params and I hate having to make user pages with just 1 or 2 params on them so I have left things out. Not sure what to do with those yet - some people like to have every single param mapped but with a complex synth I don't think that is always practical but then you have to prioritise and that's hard so some feedback on what to leave in/out would be useful. I also got bored of mapping every single lfo and envelope so just did the first few for now so you can get the picture and some of the more visual parts of the GUI like the MSEGs just won't map well anyway - also only one layer so far - will try and finish this later today/tomorrow

it's fiddly work because the mapping process is primitive compared to Kore - for example you can't even move around user pages so if you miss something you have to scrap the whole thing and start again which is why I didn't map everything for the draft version

There's a guy on the NI forum who can convert the presets using a script - put the mapped template and converted presets using that template together with a nice icon and you have your NKS version

OK I have some time today to work on it but not till I get some feedback - what to leave in what to leave out - otherwise I could have to redo the whole thing due to how stupidly NI designed their mapping system

Seem to have hit a serious bug with this, I managed to complete mapping Synthmaster but it appears some of the mappings only work one way - eg if I tweak the knob in Synthmaster it moves the Komplete Kontrol knob (and hence can be learned) but if you then tweak the same knob but on the KK keyboard it does nothing - so something is up with bi directional communication of VST automation. Can't see any pattern to which params work and which don't but it means currently Synthmaster is not possible to map well in KK which would impact on the ability to make a full NKS version until this is addressed.

Didn't have this problem in NI Kore though. It may be KK has a problem with param numbers over a certain limit? If so it could be addressed by renumbering Synthmaster automation IDs but that would impact on compatibility with previous projects.

On further investigation it seems likely the params affected are over a numerical certain limit, which does suggest the only ways to fix this would either be for NI to change their upper limit (Kore doesn't have one, and it makes no sense for KK to do so) or for params to be reordered or otherwise rationalised, but that I suspect may impact on compatibility with older projects to an extent. tbh they are not in a particularly logical order, many of the top level params are for relatively trivial things that people rarely automate anyway (and certainly don't need to in a performance context) but higher priority (for performance) params like Key track are right down at the bottom and therefore, because there are so many, impossible to automate in KK
