I've always been a big fan of their Mezzanine and 100th window Albums and would love to know how they got that kind of sound.
Anyone know what kind of equipment they used, or what plugins they used?
And if something they did use is not in plug-in form, then what would be the best plugin to recreate the sound?
Offhand just using my ears I can hear
- Electric Bass Guitar (Not sure what Model) or the Amps and pedals they use, particularly on the song "Angel and Dissolved Girl"
- Electric Guitar (I saw a guy using a fender tele when they played this live) Don't know what gear he had it hooked up to though.
- Electric Piano (As for the model, i could'nt tell you offhand)
- Acoustic Piano (Sounds like a Grand Piano to me in Teardrop)
- Acoustic Drums
- Standup bass (in exchange)
- Vinyl Drum Loops
Anyone else hear or know anything that was used?
Btw If you have never heard Massive Attack, and you like Trip Hop then go listen to Mezzanine and 100th Window!

There wasn't many plugins around at the time they recorded Mezzanine, so you can at least rule that out. My impression of Massive Attacks work (And I love their two first albums) is that it's about good taste and a lot of trial and error, always trying new stuff.

Will say this...They used Sony Acid Pro 5 and 6, to clip out beats and parts of drum hits

Thanks for the link. Mezzanine is in my top handful of albums of all time - and I loved 100th Window too.
