Ableton: is it possible to do this...

link an envelope follower to another track so it controls the modulation of another instrument?
In other words..
I want to, as an example... control the pitch bend of a synth using the beat of a kick as the source. This way I dont have to spend time drawing in the automation. The pitch obviously bends up on every kick beat.
Ive tried envelope follower -> fine tune (frequency filter). And this is the closest I can get. Only problem is it only works on percussive sounds not sustained notes.
Also tried importing the midi of kick into Omnisphere envelope to control pitch but it only imports as pulse/spike type shapes. Im more after an inverted spike shape. And also Omni's envelopes are a bitch to use.

Seems possible although rather convoluted. If you have M4L that is.
You would need an M4L device that accepts sidechain and spits out an assignable modulator of some description.
Send the kick to M4L and M4L to the synth's pitch.

If you dont have Max4Live......
You might want to take a look at VSTforx, it can do envelope following, amongst other funky paramater linking stuff.
You would need to load the plugin you want to control in VSTforx and the RemoteChannel Extension on the channel you have your drums
Load the plugin of your choice and link the envelope follower to the parameter you want to effect.
There is then extensive control over the envelope of the follower to control the envelopes response exactly how you want it.

yeah but which M4L device and how? Ive tried the envelope follower but you cant assign it to another track, it only modulates the track it's on.

Max For Live itself is buggy as hell so this doesn't surprise me one bit

Any examples - been using it for over two years and the only 'buggy' experiences I've had are from poorly made patches, Max itself has been rock solid for me ....

Absolutely agreed on initial load - The first max for live device you use after starting a session (and thus cause the max logo to appear) takes *ages* and then after that everything seems to work pretty much instantly. Really want to know what's the cause myself.
